The action-comedy sequel to 2017's 'The Hitman's Bodyguard' is finally arriving this year.
Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek are coming back for another hilarious, action-comedy sequel of 'The Hitman's Bodyguard'.
Four years after the first film premiered, the mismatched trio is embarking on a new mission to save Europe in the upcoming 'The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard'.
Let's find out everything there is to know about one of the most anticipated films of 2021.
Lionsgate scheduled the sequel to hit the theaters on August 20, 2021.
The film started production on March 03, 2019, and wrapped up on May 24, 2019.
It's safe to say that the film didn't suffer production delays due to the pandemic, but releasing the film in 2020 would be tricky, considering the lockdowns.
There are no current reports of further possible delays, so we are crossing our fingers on the current release date listed.
Not much is known yet about the upcoming sequel, but a production listing revealed that the next installment would see Michael Bryce (Reynolds) trying to stay away from violence, but instead gets entangled with Darius (Jackson) and his wife Sonia's (Hayek) plan to wreak havoc along the Amalfi Coast in an attempt to save Europe.
In the first film, Reynolds played a bodyguard hired to protect a notorious hitman, portrayed by Jackson, while Hayek plays Jackson's hitman's imprisoned wife.
The first film featured a lot of hilarious scenes (remember the 'where is your husband' and 'I was up here scene?'), and we're expecting the same amount of comical energy for the sequel.
Back in 2018, the lead stars spoke to Moviefone and revealed how much they wanted to get more of Hayek's character for the upcoming sequel.
"I want to see a movie between Darius Kincaid and Salma Hayek's character Sonia. That's all I want to see. That's the only sequel that should be made from this film." Reynolds told Moviefone.
"I want to because I didn't get enough of Sonia. I am in love with this character. I want to be in her skin again. I felt so free! It was so liberating." Hayek said in the same interview.
Hayek's character undeniably stole the show in the first film, and it's nice to know that we're getting the 'wife' sequel we all wanted.
Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Jackson are reuniting for the second installment of the film series.
Reynolds will reprise his role as the hitman's bodyguard, Michael Bryce. Jackson will return as the hitman, Darius Kincaid, and Hayek is also coming back as Darius' wife.
The film will also reunite Hayek with Antonio Banderas, who starred with her in 1995 Desperado.
Morgan Freeman is also expected to appear in the sequel, but we're still yet to find out what exact role he'll be playing.
We will also see Frank Grillo, Richard E. Grant, Tom Hopper, Kristofer Kamiyasu, and Gabriella Wright in the sequel.
There's no official trailer yet for 'The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard.' Don't worry because the production is done. So we're expecting to see the official trailer for the sequel in the upcoming months as the release date gets nearer.
We will keep you posted with updates.
