A new Lord of the Rings movie is being made by Warner Bros. and Peter Jackson.

It has been revealed that Peter Jackson is working on a brand new live-action Lord of the Rings movie.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said on an earnings call on Thursday, May 9 that the title, which has not yet been announced, is in the early stages of script development.

On top of that, it will apparently 'explore storylines yet to be told'.

Jackson, who created the original Lord of the Rings, is coming back to lead the project. He will do this with his writing partners, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who are also directing the movie.

"Lord of the Rings is one of the most successful and revered franchises in history and presents a significant opportunity for theatrical business,” Zaslav said during the earnings call.

The new Lord of the Rings movie will be the first in a series that will return to the world that J.R.R. Tolkien built.

The most famous of Tolkien's books have already been adapted into movies like The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit. But there are still more stories to be told in this wonderful world.

The movie is set to come out in 2026.

Warner Bros. announced last year that there would be more Lord of the Rings movies, so fans have had to wait a long time for more details.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said that the company and New Line Cinema had made a long-term deal with Middle-Earth Enterprises of Embracer Group AB to make a number of new movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien's world of myth and magic.

Discussing the agreement, Lee Guinchard, the CEO of Embracer Group’s Freemode, said: "Following our recent acquisition of Middle-earth Enterprises, we're thrilled to embark on this new collaborative journey with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, bringing the incomparable world of J.R.R. Tolkien back to the big screen in new and exciting ways.

"We understand how cherished these works are, and working together with our partners at New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, we plan to honor the past, look to the future, and adhere to the strongest level of quality and production values."

Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy from Warner Bros. Pictures Group said it was a great chance to get fans of the series more involved in the story.

Twenty years ago, New Line took a risk that had never been seen before to bring The Lord of the Rings' amazing stories, characters, and world to life on the big screen. The result was a landmark series of films that have been embraced by generations of fans," they said.
