The series is peppered with coming of age comedy, and the plot revolves around the lives of four friends who go through ups and downs, pain and the triumph- typical of the high-school phase, located in the rough inner city.
Netflix is renewing 'On My Block' for the third time and fans are extremely happy about it. The coming of age TV series premiered for the first time on March 16, 2018, and the second season released in March 2019. The fact that the news of its third installment came out under no time shows that the series is loved by Netflix subscribers. The show is created by Lauren Lungerich, Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft who are also the executive producers of 'On My Block'. The show's producers include Jamie Dooner, Robert Sudduth, and Hal Olofsson.
The series is a combination of coming of age comedy and drama about four friends who go through ups and downs, pain and the triumph of attending a high school located in the rough inner city. The series features Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco, and Jessica Marie Garcia. The series showcases characters finding themselves stuck in criminal activities and how they weave around real and dangerous problems. This show has indeed been everyone's favorite and has touched millions of hearts in a very real manner. Now, they want to know everything about the third installment, and here's what we know so far:
On April 29, 2019, Netflix renewed the show for the third time. The good news was announced on the show's official Twitter account. We can hope to see the third installment out in March 2020.
Speaking to TV Guide about the possibility of renewal, Lungerich said: "I think we're all hopeful. Netflix loves this show, we love this show, we're hopeful we'll get another season...I'm hopeful that the audience is going to take us home and that's what drives content on Netflix, the audience...I don't know what the future holds, but we're hopeful."
"It's a special little show. It did pretty well in its first season, but it's actually increased its following quite well in season two and people really have fallen in love with the characters and that cast," Netflix originals VP Cindy Holland tells The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a great way to provide a window into that world for people who aren't from it and also a mirror for the people who are from it."
"The entire On My Block team is beyond thrilled and grateful to continue telling this uniquely fun and important story with a third season," showrunner Iungerich told THR in a statement. "Four years ago, I had an idea to make a show for teenagers who didn't see themselves represented on TV and to do it right and today we've all watched a generation of kids passionately express how this show makes them feel seen and heard. As filmmakers, we connect people vicariously, so it’s important to get that work right; to ensure it’s being told as authentically as possible, which means surrounding yourself with people — in front of and behind the camera — like the people in your narrative. Representation and inclusion make our lives richer and art better. At every turn. Because we can’t just ask each other to the party — we have to ask each other to dance."
Fans are now accustomed to the twisted endings of the show, just like it happened in the former two seasons. Even though not many characters' fates were left in the middle of nowhere for the fans to wonder, there was indeed a surprising mystery in the end that fans would want to know more of. When Monse confronted Cesar, Ruby, and Jamal about their friendship and also that she is officially leaving Freeridge, she was shocked to see the reaction they got from them. While she continued complaining to herself, her friends are seen in the background being kidnapped and thrown into a van. Soon, Monse too is kidnapped by someone.
Fans would definitely want to know who was behind the abduction of the four characters and the reason behind it. All this will be there in the third installment and the third season will be more about the mystery and whether or not they were in any manner connected to the takedown of the Prophets. The upcoming events will definitely affect Monse's plan to leave the area and go to a boarding school on the east coast. However, the heat between the group will also be something to look forward to in the third season. The fact that the four main characters are no longer a strong unit together, fans will get to see their fate in the upcoming season. The third season will also include the constant threat of crime and traumatic events revolving around Olivia's death and how it continues to affect the group, especially Ruby and his PTSD.
The third season will certainly see Monse (Sierra Capri), Ruby (Jason Genao), Cesar (Diego Tinoco), Jasmine (Jessica Marie Garcia ), Jamal (Brett Gray), Ruby's brother Mario (Danny Ramirez), and Spooky (Julio Macias), returning as their individual stories haven't got a complete end yet. "We have an awesome story planned for Season three," Iungerich told TV Guide. "What we have in store is a fun, surprising reveal...they're definitely going to be in danger, that's for sure. But it might not be what you think it is." Olivia, however, is officially dead.
