Hayden Panettiere has expressed her concern over her daughter's well-being in the absence of her presence. The actress spoke openly about her family dynamics and the worries she harbors for her 7-year-old daughter, Kaya.

In an interview on the online show Red Table Talk, Panettiere spoke about the challenges she believes her daughter is grappling with. She revealed that her daughter's father, Wladimir Klitschko, had shared a troubling incident where Kaya had been asking other women if she could call them "mommy." Panettiere recounted her reaction, expressing profound distress as her heart sank at Klitschko's seemingly dismissive response to the situation.

“I ... remember her dad calling me, and he said Kaya’s going around and asking other women if she can call them ‘mommy,’" Panettiere said.

“My breath hitched and my heart stopped, and he was laughing. He thought this was funny, and it was horrifying to me.”

“He didn’t get it, as opposed to me who saw that’s a trauma reaction. That’s a cry for help.

“When I asked her about it she went into goo-goo ga-ga speak, like just talking gibberish. I’d never before ever heard her do that.

“It was a trauma that she was experiencing, me not being around.”

Panettiere interpreted Kaya's behavior as a distress signal, a manifestation of underlying trauma caused by her absence. She expressed frustration at Klitschko's failure to recognize the seriousness of the situation, contrasting it with her own interpretation of it as a cry for help. Panettiere voiced her belief that such experiences could potentially lead to significant emotional challenges for Kaya in the future, including anger, depression, and sadness.

Throughout the candid conversation, Panettiere also shared insights into the difficult decision to relinquish custody of her daughter. She admitted to feeling powerless in the process, recounting how she signed over custody without fully discussing it with Klitschko, a decision she described as "heartbreaking." Panettiere revealed her initial assumption that Kaya would simply be visiting her father, only to be confronted with a sudden demand for full custody, which took her by surprise.

“I thought she was going over to visit him like she always did,” the actor said.

“And then once she was over there, it was immediately, ‘I want full custody of her,’ which was a shock to me.

“If [Klitschko] had come to me and said, ‘I think because of where you’re at right now and the struggles that you’re having, it would be good for her to be over here with me for a while’ ... [I] would’ve said: ‘OK, that makes sense. I get it. I’ll come there to visit,’”

“I was going to go work on myself, and I was going to get better, and when I got better then things could change and she could come to me and I could have my time,” she added,
