‘Virgin River’ Season 4: Everything We Know So Far

‘Virgin River’ Season 4 begins filming ahead of the official renewal announcement.

‘Virgin River’ season 3 has just recently landed on Netflix on July 9, 2021, but the production team is not wasting any time.

Work for season 4 is already underway, which is great news considering the tremendous cliffhanger that season 3 left us.

Here are all the latest updates for ‘Virgin River’ season 4, including release date, plot, cast, and more.

Is ‘Virgin River’ Renewed For Season 4?

Netflix has not officially announced a season 4 renewal for 'Virgin River' yet. However, it didn't stop the show from working on season 4 ahead anyway.

By the end of July 2021, the show began filming in Vancouver, Canada. Tim Matheson, who plays Vernon Doc, confirmed via Radio Times that they will start rolling the cameras "any day now." On August 17, The Watershed Grill announced that they will be closing their restaurant for 2 days (Aug 17 and 18) to accommodate filming for 'Virgin River' season 4.

This move indicates the show's confidence that they will secure another renewal anyway. The stats of the latest season are also looking good. 'Virgin River' season 3 managed to hit the number 1 spot in Netflix's top 10 in the US.

We might hear an official renewal announcement from Netflix soon.

When Will ‘Virgin River’ Season 4 Release?

In the past, 'Virgin River' managed to release new seasons in less than a year. The prompt premieres are made possible because the team films as early as possible. Based on the current filming schedule, season 4 will likely drop around the second or third quarter of 2022.

What Is The Plot Of ‘Virgin River’ Season 4?

Mel is pregnant, and we don't know who the father is yet! In the third season, we've seen Mel and Jack's relationship going sour after Mel opens up that she wanted a child.

The couple managed to resolve their issue, and by the end of the third season, Jack proposes to Mel.

However, Mel stops him and reveals she is pregnant.

“This is good,” Jack says, amazed. “This is good. I told you I was all in, I meant it…We’re having a baby! This is amazing news. Whatever it is, we’ll get through it.”

The problem is, Mel doesn't know who the father is, and after she tells Jack, the credits immediately rolled.

The new season will likely reveal who the father of Mel's child is. It seems that Mel used the frozen embryos from her pregnancy efforts with her late husband Mark without telling Jack. Nonetheless, she surely has a lot of explaining to do.

Meanwhile, Hope has not been around for most of season 3 due to travel restrictions, prohibiting Annette O'Toole to join the production. We are assuming she will be more present in the upcoming season. Hope's husband, Doc Mullins, will continue to fight the disease that's slowly taking over his body throughout season 3.

Brady's future doesn't look so good after getting arrested for shooting Jack in season 2.

Who Is Cast In ‘Virgin River’ Season 4?

We are expecting the series regulars to return. That includes Alexandra Breckenridge as Melinda "Mel" Monroe, Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan, Colin Lawrence as John "Preacher" Middleton, Jenny Cooper as Joey Barnes, Lauren Hammersley as Charmaine Roberts, Annette O'Toole as Hope McCrea, Tim Matheson as Vernon "Doc" Mullins, Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan Brady, Grayson Gurnsey as Ricky, Sarah Dugdale as Lizzie, Zibby Allen as Brie Sheridan, and Marco Grazzini as Mike Valenzuela.

Lynda Boyd confirmed that she will be returning for season 4 through flashbacks.
