'The Whale' : Trailer, Release Date, Plot, Cast, And How To Watch

Darren Aronofsky is known for his works like Pi, Requiem for a dream, and The Fountain, he is often a subject of rave reviews and his brilliance is unparalleled. This time around he is bringing us a film called The Whale, based on a stage play of the same name. The movie starts with Brendan Fraser in the lead role. This is the very first time that Aronofsky is collaborating with A24, the production company that has made a name for itself in recent years. There is not much information on the project despite being set to release coming month.

Release Date and How to Watch...

The Whale had its premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in September. After screenings at festivals, it's set to release in theaters on December 2, 2022. 

What is The Plot of The Whale?

The screenplay will be adapted from the playwright Samuel. D. Hunter's The Whale. The play originally debuted in 2012, where it received high praise from critics and even won the Drama Desk award as well as the Lucille Lortel Award for outstanding play. The story centers around a 600-pound reclusive English teacher, Charlie, played by Brandan Fraser who is morbidly fat and has decided to eat until he dies. His binge eating is a result of his gay partner's death. At the same time, he decides to call his 17-year old daughter Ellie, to reconnect as he has come to terms with the fact that he's going to die very soon.

Known for his work in The Mummy trilogy, Brendan Fraser is playing the role of Charlie in the movie. This is said to be his most challenging role which required a deep character study on his part. The supporting cast joining Fraser includes Stranger Things star, Sadie Sink as Charlie's daughter Ellie, Hong Chau as Charlie's nurse and companion Lix, Ty Simpkins as Mormon missionary Thomas and Samantha Morton as Charlie's ex-wife, Mary. The rest of the crew consists of quite the A-team, including Rob Simonsen as the composer, Matthew Libatique as cinematographer, Andrew Weisbkum as editor, Mark Friedberg, and Robert Pyzocha as production designer, and Jurasama Arunchai as art director. 

Is There a Trailer For The Whale?

The teaser trailer for The Whale was released a mere month prior to the film's release. The teaser doesn't give much away in its 1 minute run time, mainly deciding to focus on the praise the film received.
