The New Mutants: Release Date, Plot, Cast, Trailer, Poster And More

The New Mutants is finally making its way to theaters and here's everything we know about it so far.

The New Mutants film has been in the pipeline for quite some time. There was even a possibility that it would have been shelved due to a number of reasons. The Josh Boone directed X-Men spinoff wrapped up filming way back in 2017. It seemed all set for an April 13, 2018 premiere but this clearly did not happen and it was announced that release will be delayed for reshoots. These reshoots never happened and it was believed that the delay was because of the Fox-Disney merger. It is now confirmed that the film will finally be released and here's everything we know about it so far.

When Is The Release Date Of The New Mutants?

The New Mutants

The New Mutants is finally coming out and it is scheduled to be released on April 3, 2020. The poor performance of Dark Phoenix clearly didn't stop Disney from releasing it.

Who Is In The Cast Of The New Mutants?

The New Mutants

Anya Taylor-Joy will be playing Magik, who, in the comics, is the sister of Colossus. Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams has been cast as mutant werewolf Wolfsbane. Then we got the Stranger Things star and heart-throb, Charlie Heaton, as Sam “Cannonball” Guthrie. Blu Hunt from The Originals stars as Danielle Moonstar and Henry Zaga from 13 Reasons Why is Sunspot.

Queen Of The South star Alice Braga takes over the role of Dr. Cecilia Reyes. The role was first held by Rosario Dawson.

What Is The Plot Of The New Mutants?

The New Mutants

The New Mutants is not a superhero film. Director Boone told EW that “We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.”

20th Century Fox CEO Stacy Snider spoke about the film's plot to Variety. She said: “New Mutants is about these teenagers who are just coming into their powers. It’s like watching mutants go through adolescence and they have no impulse control, so they’re dangerous. The only solution is to put them in a Breakfast Club detention/Cuckoo’s Nest institutional setting. It protects the people on the outside, but it’s strange and combustible inside. The genre is like a haunted-house movie with a bunch of hormonal teenagers.”

She added that it’s “more like The Shining than ‘we’re teenagers let’s save the world.'”
