Netflix's NSFW adult animated anthology series is coming back with eight new gritty and provocative episodes.
'Love, Death & Robots', Netflix's animated anthology series by Tim Miller and David Fincher, is coming back not just with one, but two more seasons!
The show is officially renewed for seasons 2 and 3, with the second season coming out in mid-May and the third to release next year.
'Love, Death & Robots' is based on Fincher and Miller's long-in-development reboot of the 1981 animated science fiction film 'Heavy Metal'.
The series has received mixed reviews from critics due to its hyper-violent and over-sexualized sequences. Nonetheless, it proved to be a huge hit for cyberpunk lovers and viewers who don't mind the gore and titillation for the sake of creativity.
The sophomore season will have eight new animated shorts that will bring back the right blend of rousing and gruesome sci-fi stories we come to love.
Here's everything you need to know about 'Love, Death & Robots' season 2 and 3.
The new season is coming to Netflix on May 14, 2021.
The animated anthology series premiered on Netflix on March 15, 2019, with eighteen NSFW animated stories.
The show's collection of stories proved to be successful, and by June 2019, Netflix decided to renew the series immediately for a new season.
“We couldn’t have been happier at the response to the show,” Miller said in a statement via IndieWire. “It was exactly the kind of passionate reception from animation fans David and I hoped for, but for many long years had been told wouldn’t happen.”
On April 2021, Netflix released the official trailer for 'Love, Death & Robots' season 2 (which you can see below), along with the announcement that a third season is also happening in 2022.
'Love, Death & Robots' is an adult anthology series, which means that each episode is different. Hence, we can not expect season 2 to pick up on the events of the first season.
When Netflix released the official trailer for the first season, they were very clear that the animated series is going to be trippy, violent, wild, and not for kids. It was a montage of season 1 sequences showing garbage monsters, cyborg bounty hunters, alien spiders, blood-thirsty demons, werewolf soldiers, and more, interspersed between heavy metal music.
Surprisingly, the season 2 official trailer started in a very light and philosophical tone. For a second, it got us all thinking if the showrunners will be taking a different approach for the series. However, it soon gets clear that the creators are not ditching their gritty and comedic sci-fi scenes for the upcoming eight-episode season.
The show is known for its artistic and eccentric storylines and we can expect the same surprising and bonker elements to get us hooked for the new season.
Season 2 will feature otherworlds, naked giants, and robots-gone-wild. The new season of the adult animated stories will be executive produced by Tim Miller, David Fincher, Jennifer Miller, and Joshua Donen.
Yes, there is! To get you even more excited for the upcoming season, here is the official trailer for 'Love, Death & Robots' Season 2. Take a sneak peek at these naked giants, Christmas demons, and even robots that pick up dog poop.
As mentioned, Netflix has also renewed 'Love, Death & Robots' for season 3, which is slated to release sometime in 2022. Season 3 will also consist of eight episodes, although we are yet to find out what exactly they will be about.
We will be keeping an eye on the future updates for 'Love, Death & Robots' Season 3.
