‘Jeepers Creepers 4’ Is Coming This Fall, Here Are The Details

This will be the fourth film in the horror franchise.

The Creeper is back! Screen Media has picked up the rights to Jeepers Creepers: Reborn and the studio plans to release the film in the fall of 2021. This will be the fourth installment in the horror franchise. The first film came out in 2001 and features Justin Long and Gina Philips as siblings who are chased by a demonic creature known as the Creeper portrayed by Jonathan Breck. The upcoming film Jeepers Creepers: Reborn is part of a planned new trilogy, reports Variety. The film's screenplay is penned by Sean Michael Argo (Iconoclast) and produced by Jake Seal (Quantum of Solace). Timo Vuorensola (Iron Sky) is directing. The movie is currently in post-production.

“As excited as we are, we know that fans will be even more thrilled (and chilled) to return to the world of the Creeper, now with a much scarier vision from director Timo Vuorensola, who is the perfect fit to restart this franchise,” said Screen Media in a statement. What can fans of the franchise expect? The synopsis reads: The film unfolds as the Horror Hound festival holds its first-ever event in Louisiana, where it attracts hundreds of geeks, freaks, and die-hard horror fans from far and wide. Among them is fanboy Chase and his girlfriend Laine, who is forced to come along for the ride. But as the event approaches, Laine begins to experience unexplained premonitions and disturbing visions associated with the town’s past, and in particular, local legend/urban myth The Creeper. As the festival arrives and the blood-soaked entertainment builds to a frenzy, Laine believes that something unearthly has been summoned…and that she is at the center of it.

Did you know that the original film was based on a true story? According to Screen Rant, while the demonic creature's story and appearance are fictional, some parts of the story were inspired by true events. The Creeper is said to be a supernatural being who awakens every 23 years for 23 days to eat human body parts. But the murder in the plotline was similar to a real-life story. In 1990, Ray and Marie Thornton—a brother and sister, just like Justin Long's Darry and Gina Philips' Trish—were the eyewitnesses who saw Michigan resident Dennis DePue dump his wife's body. DePue became the target of a police manhunt after his wife's death and the siblings' testimony is what initiated the plot of Jeepers Creepers. The title of the movie is named after the 1938 song of the same name which even plays in the film. It'll be interesting to see how the fourth film pans out. Will you be watching?
