The film is set to bring an end to this current version of the team on screen, an energy that was certainly palpable in the footage teased at Comic-Con.
With the first two installments ruling the box office, the Guardians of the Galaxy team is coming together for a volume 3.
James Gunn, writer-director, is returning with Guardians of Galaxy volume 3. James Gunn has been hyping up the release of the threequel by saying that it's "huge" in terms of the worlds that will be seen. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the ninth film within Phase Four and the 32nd film overall in the MCU.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is eyeing its release on May 5, 2023. Even though the movie was initially set to release on May 1, 2020, because of covid it coulndn't happen. This will make the third Guardians installment the second film in the MCU's busy Phase 5 schedule; the halfway point of the Multiverse Saga.
The details of the movie are kept under wraps but Mr. director's words have kept everyone's hopes high. James said that he'll give a promising conclusion to the story he started in 2014. After Thor: Love and Thunder, Marvel fans are of course wondering if it will play any part in the third Guardians of the Galaxy film.

The Guardians, along with Thor, are responding to distress calls across the universe thanks to Gorr the God Butcher... butchering gods. Starlord suggests the team split up so they can best traverse the galaxy and help people. They probably leave Thor: Love and Thunder to carry out their intended mission. As a brief prelude to the main plot of the third film, which is confirmed in the teaser to be the hunt for and ultimate reunion with Gamora after she vanished during the major battle with Thanos, we anticipate that this plot point will be introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
The trailer that aired at Comic-Con 2022 also indicated that Rocket will appear again, which makes sense considering that Gunn previously stated that he would have been most disappointed to not be able to complete Rocket's arc if he hadn't been able to direct the third film. (We might learn his entire past, but that is uncertain.)
Gunn has been teasing the third movie's "pretty heavy" story, adding: "It's a heavier story, so it's an emotional process to go through." Pratt described it as a masterpiece.
Your favorite Guardians of the Galaxy stars will be back for the third film. That includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Pom Klementieff as Mantis. Zoe Saldana is also returning as Gamora, who was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War but returned as a younger version of herself who traveled to the present in Avengers: Endgame. Elizabeth Debicki is back as Ayesha, the golden High Priestess and leader of the Sovereign people.

Sylvester Stallone returns as Stakar Ogord, a high-ranking Ravager. Sean Gunn, brother of director James Gunn, will reprise his role as Kraglin Obfonteri, second-in-command to the Ravagers. Will Poulter will star as the main villain Adam Warlock, an artificial being created by the Sovereign to destroy the Guardians. Additional newcomers include Chukwudi Iwuji, Daniela Melchior, and Maria Baklahova, though all their roles remain undisclosed.
