When Will 'God of War: Ragnarok' Release?

There is still no exact release date for 'God Of War: Ragnarok,' but it is currently slated to come out next year.

In June 2021, Head of PlayStation Studios Herman Hulst confirmed in an interview that the game will get delayed until 2022.

“We’ve made the decision to push that game out to next year, to ensure that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play,” Hulst explained.

A recent official blog post from Playstation offering a first look at the game says, "see you next year," which means that the 2022 release date is still in the plans.

What Is The Story Of 'God of War: Ragnarok?'

After beating Baldur at the end of 2018's 'God of War,' Kratos and Atreus went to Jotunheim to spread the ashes of Atreus' mother, Faye. There, they found out that Faye was a giant called Laufey. That makes Atreus a mixed breed, half-god, and half-giant. We also found his other name, Loki.

On their journey back home, Atreus bombarded his father with questions about his identity and his mother's true story. It seems that the new game will focus on Atreus discovering more of his Loki side while trying to stop the Ragnarok.

Ragnarok, also known as the “Twilight of the Gods,” is a cataclysmic event prophecized in Norse mythology. It's a battle between gods that will bring death to most of them.

In the new game's trailer, we see Atreus thinking that the only way to stop the Ragnarok and help people is through a war, but Kratos believes otherwise.

The trailer also introduces some intriguing new characters like Angrboda. According to Sony, Angrboda is the last remaining giant.

There is also a giant guy at the end of the trailer. His name is Tyr, son of Odin, half-brother of Thor and Baldur. Tyr's father imprisoned him, so Tyr might be up for some revenge.

The story will transpire across the Nine Realms. We only saw six in 'God of War' and we will see an additional three realms namely: Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, and Asgard.

Is 'God of War: Ragnarok' Available On PS5 Only?

Great news! 'God of War: Ragnarok' is not a PS5 exclusive. The game will have a cross-gen release, which means it will be available on PS4 and PS5.

"Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 — for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 — we’ll continue looking at that," Hulst said in an interview on the official Playstation Blog.

"And if PS4 owners want to play that game, then they can. If they want to go on and play the PS5 version, that game will be there for them."
