The highly-anticipated Firefly Lane is Netflix’s ten-episode series which traces more than 40 years of friendship. It follows two friends, Tully and Kate, who met in 1974 at age 14. The first season focused on how their friendship unravels. The series is based on the 2008 novel of the same name by Kristin Hannah. In the show, the cast includes Katherine Heigl, Sarah Chalke, Ben Lawson, Beau Garrett, and Alissa Skovbye. Showrunner Maggie Friedman loved the idea of focusing on female friends and according to TIME, she spoke to Netflix saying “Your soulmate isn’t necessarily the person you marry or fall in love with,” she said. “Maybe you’ll watch it, and afterward you’ll call your best friend and tell her you love her.” As the first season wrapped up recently, fans are now wondering what they can expect in season two.
Netflix is yet to confirm a second season just yet. Cosmopolitan notes that the show was filmed from September 2019 through January 2020 in Burnaby, British Columbia, and was released in February 2021. So if there is an upcoming season it might happen sometime around the middle of 2022.
For those who have watched the show, it's clear that season 2 will have a lot going on! Creator Maggie Friedman told Entertainment Weekly there was enough material for a second season. "I think there are a lot more stories to tell, if we’re lucky enough to have a season two, of those girls going through high school and what that’s like," she commented. “They’re only in eighth grade when we leave them. They’ll have a lot of good teen years and fun seventies, growing up times with the great music and the fashions and all of the cultural changes,” she continued. "I think it’s just really interesting. I’d love to keep telling us that those stories and those actors are so good, so of course, I would want to keep seeing them." If you've read the novel there's also a major character death that occurs that might be included in the show as well.
Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke should surely be there. Their childhood versions Roan Curtis and Ali Skovbye will also be likely returning. We assume Ben Lawson as Kate's husband Johnny, Yael Yurman as their daughter, and Beau Garrett as Tully's mom, Cloud will also return. There might be a possibility of Max (Jon-Michael Ecker) returning in season 2 as well.
