The upcoming romantic crime film puts a dangerous and more brutal spin on the classic love story. Instead of roses, we get bullets in a fight full of love, lust, revenge, and betrayal.
The film is directed by Collin Schiffli, with a screenplay by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.
'Die in a Gunfight' has been in development for so long, it's almost unbelievable that it's finally happening.
Here is everything you need to know.
'Die in a Gunfight' is coming to theaters on July 16, 2021. It will also be available through video on demand in the United States on the same date.
'Die in a Gunfight' took more than a decade of hellish development history before finally coming to fruition. The film's script appeared in the 2010 edition of the Black List, a survey of most-liked unproduced screenplays.
The screenplay was written by newbie writers Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari. The script was so loved that Zac Efron picked up the project in 2010. He was supposed to star in the lead role and serve as a co-producer under Ninjas Runnin’ Wild banner. However, after 7 years of tremendously unfruitful development, the lead roles were passed on to Kaya Scodelario and Josh Hutcherson. The film was still unable to move forward following their casting. Finally, in 2019, Diego Boneta and Alexandra Daddario took over the lead roles, and the cameras started rolling.
Production started on November 13 and wrapped on December 13, 2019.
'Die in a Gunfight' is like your modern Romeo and Juliet, but messier and bloodier.
It follows Ben Gibbon (Diego Boneta ), a young New Yorker who falls in love with the daughter of his father's nemesis.
For the longest time, the Rathcarts and the Gibbons have a bloody feud.
"It was never about business. It was personal," the official trailer teased.
When the rebellious Ben meets and falls in love with Mary Rathcart (Alexandra Daddario), both families were furious. They were quickly ordered to put an end to the nonsense romance. But you know what Shakespeare says, "The course of true love never did run smooth." And boy, what follows is indeed anything but smooth.
Ben and Mary elope and decide to start a new life together. But their reckless love has ignited a bigger fire to the already blazing feud between their families. Will their young and passionate love stand all the risk? We will have to watch the film to find out.
