The 1992 classic horror film featuring a hook wielding, bee clad killer is getting a 2020 spiritual sequel. Find all the interesting details here.
Candyman is coming back to haunt those who summon his name in front of the mirror.
The classic horror film will get a 2020 reboot with Jordan Peele producing and co-writing the movie. The film is set to be a "spiritual sequel" to the 1992 Candyman film.
Let's find out how the reboot will connect with the 1992 Candyman classic.
Candyman 2020 will follow Anthony McCoy, now a grown-up visual artist.
In the 1992 film, Anthony was kidnapped by the Candyman himself. He was rescued by Helen, who ends up getting killed in a fire. She turned out just like Candyman in the finale, killing those who call her name five times in front of the mirror.
In the 2020 sequel, Anthony returns to the Chicago neighborhood where the legend began, together with his girlfriend Brianna Cartwright. The place has changed a lot, and the modernization seemed to have swept away the traces of the past.
Although Anthony senses a strong connection to the place, he seemed to have no recollection of the past events in the previous film. Anthony meets an old resident of the Cabrini Green who told him the tale of the Candyman, a vengeful ghost of a black artist who was killed after falling in love with a white woman. He has a hook for a hand which he uses to kill those who call his name five times in front of a mirror.
Struggling to keep his high status as an artist, Anthony decided to revive Candyman's tales through his artworks. Unknowingly, Anthony opens a portal that brings back the vengeful ghost that was once forgotten by history.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is playing the grown-up Anthony McCoy while Teyonah Parris is playing as his girlfriend, Brianna Cartwright. Vanessa Williams is also coming back as Anne-Marie McCoy, Anthony's mother. We are also expecting Tony Todd, who originally played Daniel Robitaille/Candyman, to be part of the sequel. Colman Domingo plays William Burke, the Cabrini Green old-timer who tells Anthony about Candyman. Cassie Kramer will portray as Helen Lyle, Candyman's reincarnated lover who saved Anthony when he was a child. The role was previously played by Virginia Madsen in the first film.
