Betty White would have turned 100 years old today. The TV legend passed away on the eve of the new year, just days before her centenary birthday. Google is paying homage to the actress on her birthday in a fitting manner. And it is in the form of a Google Search Easter egg.

To see the tribute, all you have to do is google "Betty White." The landing page will first display the actor's profile and the screen slowly transitions to reveal the secret message. The screen will then carry the message: "Thank you for being a friend," which is also the title of The Golden Girls theme song. As another nod to her role in the hit TV show, as Rose Nylund, there is a shower of rose petals on the screen.

The Golden Girls received 68 Emmy nominations, 11 Emmy awards, and four Golden Globe Awards. Last year, for the shows 36th anniversary, a film was released. There was a less successful spin-off of the show, The Golden Palace which is now available on Hulu. Forever Golden: A Celebration of The Golden Girls was released theatrically on September 14, 2021. It comprised of five episodes from the show starting with The Pilot, The Flu, The Way We Met, Ladies of the Evening, and Grab That Dough

In a 2004 interview, White explained how it was playing Rose. "It was a perfect switch, in hindsight, but I was a little scared," she said. "I knew Blanche. That would have been easy. I didn't exactly know how to play dumb. The best advice I got was, again, from Jay Sandrich. He said, 'Rose takes every word for its literal meaning. She knows no sarcasm, no nothing. If somebody said Rose could eat a horse, she'd call the SPCA.'" She added, "And Rue, my god, she took Blanche out into orbit where I would have never dared to go. So I just think it worked out beautifully. If I had half the sex life Blanche had I would have been dead from exhaustion."
