How to Watch ‘House of Hammer’ Online: Where to Stream the Armie Hammer Docuseries

A new docuseries about Armie Hammer arrives on Discovery+ Friday, promising to delve deep into the headline-making accusations leveled against the actor over the past year, in addition to his wealthy family’s dark past.

Last year, actor Armie Hammer faced several accusations of violent sexual assault, stemming from unverified screengrabs of text messages purportedly sent by the actor to his mistresses, and from an account by a woman who called herself “Effie.” With depictions of extreme cannibalism and bondage fetish scenarios, the texts and Effie’s account went viral, leading to some of Hammer’s exes coming forward to allege nonconsensual behavior on the part of the Oscar-nominated actor.

When and Where Can You Stream House of Hammer?

Because House of Hammer is a Discovery+ exclusive, the streaming service will be the only place to watch House of Hammer online on September 3, and it was co-produced with the help of Armie Hammer's aunt, Casey Hammer. She also wrote a memoir entitled, Surviving My Birthright, detailing her experience as a victim of sexual assault as a child by her father. In the official trailer, the author says the following about her dysfunctional family:

"On the outside, we were a perfect family. But magnify Succession a million times, and it was my family. If you believe about making deals with the devil the Hammers are the top of the totem pool. Every generation in my family has been involved in dark misdeeds, and it just gets worse and worse. I know my grandfather had a dark side, but I saw my father's dark side firsthand, and I saw my brother's dark side, and it was like a monster was unleashed. Now it is Armie Hammer.”

What is the movie about?

The trailer for House of Hammer, which dropped earlier this month, includes clips of conversations with the actor’s ex-girlfriends Courtney Vucekovich and Julia Morrison, who provide screenshots of text conversations, voice memos and photos to back up their accounts of the alleged abuse they endured. The trailer ends with the huge kicker that Hammer’s aunt, Casey Hammer, will also be featured in the docuseries, speaking out about her own family. “On the outside, we were a perfect family, but magnify ‘Succession’ a million times and it was my family,” she says in the clip. “If you believe about making deals with the devil, the Hammers are top of the totem pole.”

Who Is Armie Hammer? What Did Armie Hammer Do?

Because this is a case where the story has gotten bigger than its players, there’s a chance you may not know who Armie Hammer is. The actor is best known for starring in The Social Network and Call Me By Your Name. However, he was among the rich and powerful long before his first award nomination. Hammer is the son of businessman Michael Armand Hammer and the great-grandson of the oil tycoon Armand Hammer.

Allegations of abuse about the actor started to leak onto social media in January of 2021. But while Hammer’s messages about cannibalism became the laughing stock of the internet, a far more disturbing story was unfolding. Several women accused the actor of emotional abuse and rape. He even became the subject of an LAPD sexual assault investigation after a woman took to Instagram and accused Hammer of violently raping her. That investigation never led to an actual case. House of Hammer pieces together these allegations while examining other stories about the Hammer family.
