'Tidying Up With Marie Kondo' Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Marie Kondo's insightful organizational hacks continue to dazzle Netflix subscribers. Will she be back for more?

Netflix offers a wide variety of reality TV shows, including both imported and original content. One popular show is 'Tidying Up', featuring internet sensation Marie Kondo as she travels across the United States, helping people organize their homes. The show has gained significant attention and inspired an increase in charity donations in both the United Kingdom and the United States. It has even been nominated for the Critics Choice Real TV Awards. Since its launch on January 1st, the show has gained worldwide popularity, encouraging viewers to reconsider their possessions and personal space. Over the course of six weeks, Kondo visited eight families, guiding them through an organizational revolution and encouraging them to identify the items that bring them joy.

Has Netflix Renewed 'Tidying Up With Marie Kondo'?

Even though there hasn't been any official update about whether the series is returning for a second season, there is one indication that hints a return is on the horizon an that is a casting page from the company that handles getting the subjects onto the show. The company also said, "Casting for season 1 has concluded, but you are welcome to complete an application in anticipation of future seasons."

The people behind the show are also ecstatic with the response they get. Gail Berman, the executive producer said, "We haven’t heard anything yet from Netflix, but we’re very overwhelmed with the response. You know when the high school people on Facebook have come to find you and tell you about one of your shows, that it definitely hit a nerve out there."

Marie Kondo, on the other hand, does have other projects on the go. She is a prolific author and announced in May 2019 that she has finished two new books.

In August 2021, Kondo appeared in a follow-up series titled 'Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo.' Her recent Netflix appearance tells us that there is a huge possibility for the organizing consultant to be back on Netflix in the future. It doesn't have to be specifically called 'Tidying Up With Marie Kondo' season 2, but the essence will be the same.

What Is 'Tidying Up With Marie Kondo' All About?

The show showcases a meaningful relationship with their belongings in Asian cultures. When asked about this connection and experiment with the KonMari method of folding clothes, she said, "Yes, I put it off as long as I could, but the guilt factor ultimately set in for me and I felt like I had to be a part of it. I started thinking about how people found items in their own closets that they’d never worn, and then I found those things in my closet! I couldn’t believe it. The thing that I think is best represented by the show is the message of anti-consumerism, and also the notion that things don’t have to dramatically change in your home by modifying things, but instead looking within and being able to create an environment that’s a joyful place. What we showed were normal folks; they have the same issues and problems that everyone has that are highly relatable. That’s the beauty of the show."

Is It Fair To Compare This Show To 'Queer Eye' And The Fab Five?

When asked about whether the comparison is fair or not, Gail Berman said, "The difference in this process versus the others is that it's very profound. Marie does not do the transformation for you; you must do and commit to the transformation. Marie’s not coming over with a team of people and cleaning your house, it doesn’t work like that. In Queer Eye, the guys go out and they buy the clothing and help with the transformation in a significant way. Marie is causing a transformation in a much more spiritual way."
