Hunter's play of the same name, The Whale tells the story of a reclusive father who is extremely sad and demotivated in life. The Whale hit the big screens in the U.S. on December 9. We are not sure when and where will we get to see it online, as discussed, but our educated guess tells us that since it's A24, we might get to see it in January or early February. 

What Is The Plot of The Whale?

The story is about a morbidly obese father trying to reconnect with his daughter one last time before dying. His grief comes from abandonment issues, and he just cannot live like this anymore. 

The screenplay, as mentioned, has been adapted from the play. The play itself received high praise when it first debuted back in 2012. The story follows the life of a 600-pound reclusive English teacher, Charlie, who has decided to eat himself to death. Charlie's pain comes from the death of his lover, which has led to his binge eating. The last thing he wants to do before dying is to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter.
