'The Walking Dead' Will End After 11 Seasons

The long-running zombie survival series will conclude in 2022. However, spin-off series are in the works.

The Walking Dead Season 11

After 11 seasons, 'The Walking Dead' will finally come to an end.

The flagship series, which started in 2010, will conclude its eleventh and final season next year, 2022. The Walking Dead season 11 contains 24 episodes in total. It was divided into two parts with 12 episodes each.

The first part of The Walking Dead season 11 premiered in the United States on 22nd August 2021 on AMC. It arrived in the UK on the following day exclusively via Star on Disney Plus.

New episodes then arrived weekly on the streaming service, which concluded on 10th October.

The second part of The Walking Dead's final season will release on 20th February 2022 on AMC in the US. It will arrive in the UK the following day via Star on Disney Plus.

Although the long-running show is now coming to an end, that doesn't mean that we will be saying goodbye to the entire franchise just yet. The cable network has ordered two new Walking Dead spin-offs.

The first spin-off focuses on popular characters Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride).

The second one is an anthology series (Tales of the Walking Dead) that will chronicle the backstories of famous characters. 'Tales of the Walking Dead' is currently scheduled to release in summer 2022.

That makes four Walking Dead spinoff shows so far, including 'Fear the Walking Dead' and 'The Walking Dead: World Beyond.'

There is also a series of spin-off movies featuring Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) that is in the works.

“It’s been 10 years ‘gone bye;’ what lies ahead are two more to come and stories and stories to tell beyond that,” said Scott Gimple, Chief Content Officer for the Walking Dead franchise in a statement via THR in September 2020.

“What’s clear is that this show has been about the living, made by a passionate cast, team of writer/producers, producers, and crew, bringing to life the vision put forth by Robert Kirkman in his brilliant comic — and supported by the best fans in the world.

“We have a lot of thrilling story left to tell on TWD, and then, this end will be a beginning of more Walking Dead — brand new stories and characters, familiar faces and places, new voices, and new mythologies. This will be a grand finale that will lead to new premieres. Evolution is upon us. The Walking Dead lives.”

'The Walking Dead' showrunner Angela Kang added: “I look forward to digging in with our brilliant writers, producers, directors, cast, and crew to bring this epic final chapter of Robert Kirkman’s story to life for our fans over the next two years.

“The Walking Dead flagship series has been my creative home for a decade and so it’s bittersweet to bring it to an end, but I could not be more excited to be working with Scott Gimple and AMC to develop a new series for Daryl and Carol. Working with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride has been a highlight of my career and I’m thrilled that we get to keep telling stories together.”
