The 'Fraggle Rock: Back To The Rock' Reboot Is Almost Here

It feels like a trip back to the '80s as the characters, costumes reintroduced in the teaser look exactly like they did during their original run.

The beloved muppet musical, Fraggle Rock, is coming back this year. The show originally created by Jim Henson had its first run back in 1983 and went on till 1987 with a total of 96 episodes. This children's show was a fantasy-filled world following the adventures of the Fraggles and remains a show that is much-loved to this day. The show was described by Henson as "a high-energy, raucous musical romp." It has continued to remain relevant across many generations.



 

In 2020, was the first reboot, Fraggle Rock: Rock On! These weekly live-action shorts were made relevant for the time when the pandemic had taken over the world. The Fraggles lived in separate caves during a period of social distancing and interacted with each other using a video chat system that was installed by the Doozers. It was available for streaming on Apple TV+.

What Is The Premise Of Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock?

The new show will see the music-loving Fraggle friends "on epic, hilarious adventures about the magic that happens when we celebrate and care for our interconnected world," according to a release from Apple TV+. It feels like a trip back to the '80s as the characters, costumes are reintroduced in the teaser are exactly the same as they sing the unforgettable theme song "Dance Your Cares Away" together. 

The Fraggles — Gobo, Red, Boober, Mokey, Wembley, Uncle Travelling Matt — alongside new Fraggles and Doozers voiced by special guests stars Patti LaBelle, Cynthia Erivo, Daveed Diggs, Ed Helms, Kenan Thompson, as well as an appearance by the rock band Foo Fighters, will be a part of the reboot. 



 

The series is produced by Ritamarie Peruggi. Matt Fusfeld and Alex Cuthbertson, serve as showrunners and along with The Jim Henson Company’s Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford, and longtime collaborator, John Tartaglia are executively producing this reboot. New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer and Dave Goelz and Karen Prell are co-executive producers as well. and executive music producer is Harvey Mason Jr. 

When Will Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock Be Released?

The reboot is set to premiere on January 21, 2022, on Apple TV+. The series will have 13 full-length episodes.



 

Is There An Official Trailer?

Yes. The first teaser was released in November 2021 announcing the premiere date. It included the five main characters who are making their way through the cave together and Boober's iconic finale to announce "Down in Fraggle Rock" one last time as well. You can watch the latest trailer here:
