'Special' will have to perform much better on Netflix to return for a new season as there are already several successful shows that have won everyone's heart.
Netflix Original comedy series 'Special' has become a viewer's favorite for its relatable content. It is adapted from Ryan O'Connell's memoir called 'I'm Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves', and apart from being the creator of the show, he also has taken up the role of the protagonist. The Big Bang Theory's production house Warner Bros Television and the show's star Jim Parsons have come together to produce 'Special', that has eight episodes and was released on April 12, 2019.
'Special' will have to perform much better on Netflix to get a new season as there are already several successful shows that have won everyone's heart. Like 'Atypical' which is a humorous comedy based on a high school student with autism, then there is ABC's 'Speechless' which is a Comedy series based on a teenager with cerebral palsy and CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which is a romantic musical comedy-drama series that revolves around a woman suffering from borderline personality disorder. 'Special' already has competition waiting for it to do better than the already set high standards.
It will be too soon to know whether the show will get a sequel or not, as Netflix takes two months or so to come to a decision depending on the figures and numbers it fetches in the decided time. Undoubtedly, the show indeed has encouraged and entertained many subscribers with its healthy representation of LGBT and its heavy laughable and funny content.
Also, April was a splendid month for LGBT representation with many other shows like BONDING, and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power taking up the mantle. Fans definitely want to see these shows including 'Special' getting a renewal.
If at all season 2 happens then we can expect to see the series returning sometime this year. The show does not have traditional run time and has a far shorter production than any other conventional show, putting our faith back into its renewal. The first season was ordered on the 5th of February 2019 and premiered on April 12th. Going with its timeline, there can be more of 'Special' by the end of 2019, or by April 2020.
It is a story revolving around a man who is gay and is suffering from mild cerebral palsy. But, he is not open about his illness, and to make his colleagues believe, he made up his own story where he tells that his disability is the result of a car accident and not an innate neurological disorder. The series shows his good and bad times until he reaches his twenties. It is only in his twenties when he realizes that he should embrace all the imperfections he has and he is what he is, without having to hide anything from the world. Therefore, he finally chooses to come out of the shell in which he was living in for a long time, and follow the tagline of the show that says, ‘Why be normal when you can be…Special?'
It is an engaging show which today's millennials will be able to relateto as it has comic, and is funny and witty at the same time. Not just that, the show is also heartwarming, sensitive and inspirational which is much required in today's world where people are fighting a battle with themselves every day. The synopsis of the show reads, “Ryan spent years as a Millennial cliché: he had dead-end internships; dabbled in unemployment; worked in his pajamas as a blogger; communicated mostly via text; looked for love online; spent hundreds on “necessary” items, like candles, while claiming to have no money; and even descended into aimless pill-popping. But through extensive trial and error, Ryan eventually figured out how to take his life from bleak to chic and began limping towards adulthood.”

"Oh, I can't do that."
"Why not?"
"Because.. I'm super into dying alone."
Alright #SpecialNetflix, I've already binged one show tonight, but you're gonna make it two.
New hero/sexgod, Ryan O’Connell. Writer, star, and creator of Netflix’ new series, Special. A fictionalised version of his life as a gay disabled man, it’s both heart-warming and heart-breaking at times. I just sat here and binged the lot.@ryanoconn #SpecialNetflix pic.twitter.com/Rt3UvZvYAy

Everyone NEEDS to watch #Special on Netflix! I just ADORED it! Perfect (and IMPORTANT) representation, an educational story and wonderfully human characters! In eight episodes, it tackles SO many issues whilst putting a gay disabled guy at the forefront. It’s revolutionary!! 💕 pic.twitter.com/cGcsHKn4Gg
