The new members of the secret society are tasked to capture January. Does that mean a sequel is happening?
Disney's 'Secret Society Of Second-Born Royals' may have met a fair share of criticism for being "bland and full of cliches", but there are still reasons to believe that Sam and her friends are coming back in the future.
The superhero film dropped on Disney plus on September 25, 2020, and was directed by Anna Mastro.
'Secret Society Of Second-Born Royals' follows a rebellious princess who discovers she has a superpower.
After giving us an open-ending, can we expect a sequel for 'Secret Society Of Second-Born Royals'?
Let's find out.
As of this writing, Disney has not announced a sequel for 'Secret Society Of Second-Born Royals' yet.
The 'Secret Society Of Second-Born Royals' has received some rough reviews and moderate success. Although the entire concept of the film seems viable, we are not sure if the audience reception will entice Disney enough to produce a sequel.
However, the film's open-ending could be a great hint that Disney is already eyeing a sequel. We will discuss this more below.
Warning: 'Secret Society Of Second-Born Royals' major spoilers below.
The first film came with a twist and revelation, which ultimately led to an indefinite ending.
Prisoner 34 was revealed to be Sam's uncle Edmond, the second-born prince who is believed to have died with her father in a plane crash.
It turns out that Sam's mother, who runs the Secret Society, had orchestrated the fake death of his uncle and had him locked away after his uncle killed Sam's father in a bid for the throne.
We also found out that January is Edmond's secret accomplice, taking Toma's ability to command people and use it to set Edmond free.
Although Sam and her friends managed to stop January and Edmond's nefarious plans, something's telling us that more threats are coming their way soon.
They managed to lock up Edmond again, but January escaped, signaling that the war isn't over.
After Sam, Matteo, Roxana, and Tuma became bonafide members of the Society, Catherine sent them on their first mission which is to catch January.
The sequel will likely pick up from where the first film ended, with Sam and her friends trying their best to seize January who's on the loose.
Disney is yet to confirm the sequel for 'Secret Society Of Second-Born Royals'. Hence, we still can not give you an expected release date.
But assuming that the sequel gets confirmed soon, then a late 2022 release is possible.
The film consists of young performers, so there shouldn't be any major scheduling conflicts. The visual effects are also modest in comparison to most superhero-themed films. So post-production shouldn't be as extensive.
The sequel is not confirmed yet, but assuming it gets the confirmation soon, we are expecting to see major cast members reprise their roles to pick things up from the first film's ending.
Peyton Elizabeth Lee will likely reprise her role as Princess "Sam" Samantha, together with Ashley Liao as her sister and Crown Princess Eleanor.
Isabella Blake-Thomas will also likely return as Princess January, following her dramatic escape.
Other cast members we are expecting to return to are:
Olivia Deeble as Princess Roxana, Noah Lomax as Mike Kleinberg, Faly Rakotohavana as Prince Matteo, Skylar Astin as Professor James Morrow, and Sofia Pernas as Princess Anna, among others.
There's also a chance for Greg Bryk to return for his antagonist role as Inmate 34/ Edmond.
We are still waiting for Disney to announce the sequel for 'Secret Society Of Second-Born Royals'. While waiting for confirmation, enjoy the first film's trailer below.
