The director is planning plenty of seasons more for 'Scissor Seven.'
Chinese anime 'Scissor Seven' (also known as Killer 7) is making its wave worldwide for its humorous take on the usually dark assassin storyline.
The anime follows the misadventures of Seven, a hairdresser with amnesia who wants to be an assassin. His lack of skillset for the rather intricate career choice often leads to humorous circumstances.
The anime has now released three seasons, and a movie is underway. The question is, will the anime return for another season in the future? Here is what we know.
We are still waiting for the official renewal of 'Scissor Seven' for season 4. The third season of the anime ended in a cliffhanger. Based on director He Xiaofeng's statement to WeChat, we can expect more seasons ahead. The director said he plans to end the anime after ten seasons as part of “a 20-year-long-term operation IP.”
Scissor Seven airs first in China on Bilibili, Tencent Video, Youku, iQIYI, and Sohu Video, before getting distributed globally by Netflix. The anime is popular both in its native China and abroad. Hence, a fourth season seems highly likely.
Even if the anime gets renewed for a fourth season soon, we will still have to wait for a while before it releases on Netflix.
The anime only goes to the streaming platform after its Chinese airing, with at least an eighteen-month gap between seasons.
With these schedules in mind, the fourth season of Scissor Seven will likely release in China in mid-late 2022 and will be available for international streaming on Netflix by 2023.
However, it is worth noting that the third season ended with an announcement that a Scissor Seven film is in the works and will release in 2022. The movie might delay the production and release date for season 4. Hence, there is a chance that it will release on Netflix by 2024!
'Scissor Seven' is not based on a manga series, unlike Japanese anime. So, it is more challenging to predict what happens next, especially since there is also a movie coming out.
There are rumors that the upcoming film will be a prequel. In that case, the storyline for season 4 will likely pick up from the events of season 3. But if the film will not be a prequel as rumored, then it will affect the storyline for season 4.
The third season of 'Scissor Seven' ended on a cliffhanger. Seven is slowly losing some of his memories of his friends on Chicken Farm after suffering from the black ice poison.
Manjusaka and Shimen remain a huge threat for Seven and Thirteen, so we expect another attack in the future.
Comedian-actor Ronny Chieng plays assassin Seven in the English dub of the anime. Chieng previously worked on projects Godzilla vs. Kong and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Genshin Impact voice actor Jas Patrick plays his blue chicken best friend, Dai Bo, while American Dad’s Jill Bartlett voices flying chicken, Xiao Fei.
Other casts who might also return are
Jennie Kwan (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf) as Thirteen, Karen Huie (Ghost of Tsushima) as Chairman Jiang, and Lawrence Saint-Victor (The Bold and the Beautiful) as Mad Bark.
