Santa Gets A Boyfriend In Emotional Christmas Ad, 'When Harry Met Santa'

The heartwarming commercial by Norway's postal service shows the blossoming romance during annual visits on Christmas.

Santa Gets A Boyfriend In Emotional Christmas Ad

The Norwegian postal service released a heartwarming Christmas ad that captures a touching love story between Santa and his boyfriend. Posten, Norway's national postal service, shared a four-minute short film, When Harry met Santa (an obvious riff on the popular rom-com When Harry Met Sally), to mark 50 years since same-sex relationships were decriminalized in the country, reports TODAY.

The video starts off with Santa meeting Harry for the first time when he is dropping off presents at Harry's home. As the years pass, it's clear that their longing for each other grows stronger and stronger. Harry can be seen eager for that one moment where they can meet each other on Christmas. There are times when the two clearly share a special connection. One such instance was when Harry and Santa are seen laughing and talking all night before Santa leaves again. Harry can be seen dressed up for the special day every time he meets Santa. But one day is not enough and Harry is struggling with his emotions. The pair realizes that due to Santa's long list of Christmas Eve obligations, they only get to spend time together once a year and for a brief amount of time. Harry has had enough. Finally, we see Harry writing a letter to Santa, letting him know that, "All I want for Christmas is you."

By the end of the video, we see Harry getting his gifts in the mail that year. Later, he heads into his living room and he sees what he's been wanting all this while, waiting for him... Santa Claus, in the flesh! Harry is surprised. "I arranged some help this year," Santa tells him. "So I can be with you." The two share the special moment by locking eyes and heading in for a sweet kiss. The ad closes with the message: "In 2022, it will have been 50 years since it became legal in Norway to love whoever you want."

Posten's marketing director Monica Solberg shared that the holiday season is a great time to celebrate love, so why not feature a gay love story to highlight how love is inclusive? Solberg added that, due to the pandemic, the past couple of years has been hard on everyone and the ad was aimed to spread some joy. "It has been a dark year for everyone—A global pandemic, code red for our planet, refugee crisis and more," Solberg told LGBTQ Nation. "Perhaps what we need this year is a warm and heartfelt love story? A celebration of the fact that we can love whomever we want in Norway, despite everything bad that happens around the world." Love is love!
