Ryan Gosling's New Film Is Being Slammed For Johnny Depp And Amber Heard ‘Joke’

Hannah Waddingham's character references Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in a quip that's been slammed as 'disgusting'

After hearing that Ryan Gosling's new movie makes a reference to Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, a lot of people are alarmed on social media.

The Fall Guy stars Barbie's Ryan Gosling and IF's Emily Blunt and was released this week. However, before it even made it into theaters it'd already faced backlash online.

Filmed by David Leitch, The Fall Guy is an action-comedy about a stuntman named Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) who has just been through an accident that almost ended his career and has decided to take a year off to focus on his mental and physical health.

However, when the star of a movie being directed by his ex Jody Moreno (Blunt) disappears, he's drafted in to help, despite the fearsome producer Gail Meyer's (Hannah Waddingham) best efforts to keep the star's disappearance under wraps.

In a surprising turn of events, Waddingham's character talks about Amber Heard and Johnny Depp in the movie.

A Hollywood Reporter article says that Meyer walks into a messy room in The Fall Guy and says to Moreno, "It looks like Amber and Johnny were just in here."

And it didn't take long for people to be upset about the line on social media.

One X user said: "Seriously, who thought that was a good idea to put in the movie, talk about tone-deaf.

"It’s always very telling when people say 'it was just a joke'. They show exactly why we still are where we are in society, with little to no empathy for survivors/victims of domestic violence," another added.

A third commented: "Domestic violence is no joke! How can someone put something like that in a movie? Disgusting!"

"As it should be. DV is not a joke and treating it like one is sick. Everyone involved should be ashamed," a fourth added.

The comment is a reference to the claimed domestic violence between Depp and Heard, which was shown in court during the six-week trial. Depp sued his ex-wife for $50 million (£38.2 million) in defamation after she said he abused her in a 2018 story in The Washington Post. During the trial, both actors talked about how they treated each other during their four-year relationship. Depp won the case and was given $15 million in damages. Heard, on the other hand, lost her case but was awarded $2 million by the judges.
