Rush Hour 4: Everything We Know So Far

This is a live article and we will update this space as new details come our way about Rush Hour 4. This is what we know so far.

Rush Hour 4

The first Rush Hour film was released in 1998 and became so successful that it spawned two more sequels, which were released in 2001 and 2007.

The fourth installment of the action-comedy series has been reported since 2017.

However, it has been years, and we haven't seen any footage of the anticipated sequel at all.

What happened to Rush Hour 4? Here is everything we know so far.

Is Rush Hour 4 Ever Going To Happen?

For many years, there have been rumors about the possibility of a fourth "Rush Hour" movie. Although there is no clear indication of whether it will happen, there is some hope. Jackie Chan, who starred in the previous films, confirmed that there have been ongoing discussions about the project, and he is planning to meet with the director to review the script.

However, Chan's involvement in the movie depends on the quality of the script. He has previously stated that he will only participate if the script is convincing enough.

Chris Tucker, who co-starred with Chan in the previous movies, has also expressed his enthusiasm for the project. In a recent interview with V-103, Tucker mentioned that he is eager to return to the film industry after a long period of travel and specifically mentioned his desire to work alongside Chan in "Rush Hour 4".

Despite the enthusiasm from both Chan and Tucker, there is still uncertainty surrounding the movie's development stage. There is no confirmed writer, director, distribution company, or studio support for the project, which is a cause for concern.

While it is encouraging to hear that there are ongoing discussions, the lack of concrete progress could mean that fans may have to wait even longer for the movie's realization. Fans have already waited for 16 years, and they are hopeful that this momentum will not lead to another prolonged delay.

Let us take a look back at the history of the planned sequel.

Back in October 2017, Jackie Chan confirmed that he had agreed on a script for the film and said that they are only waiting for Chris Tucker to sign off on the screenplay.

In February 2018, Tucker confirmed that he is on board for Rush Hour 4.

Film production was set to begin in 2018, but for some reason, this did not push through.

In January 2019, we heard another update from Tucker, who said that they are still revisiting the script.

"We're working on a few things on the script right now, so we're trying to get into production, but we're working on it and trying to get it going. Jackie Chan wants to do it, I want to do it, the studio wants to do it, so we're trying to get it together," Tucker said via Winging It podcast.

In April 2019, fans were thrilled to see Tucker posting a photo of him and Chan holding up four fingers each.

Naturally, fans assumed that the photo meant Rush Hour 4 was finally on the way after a long wait.

However, in an unexpected twist, Jackie Chan's management immediately released a statement the next day, revealing that Chan had not agreed to star in Rush Hour 4.

In October 2019, Tucker continued to talk about Rush Hour 4 alongside a couple of other projects, saying he and Jackie are still figuring the film out.

"Me and Jackie Chan are talking about doing something new and something different, so we’ll see,” Tucker told ABC Audio, adding, “Hopefully we’ll get something going real soon.”

When Will Rush Hour 4 Release?

The show's filming plans currently remain in limbo. It will be impossible to give you an expected release date until the production of the show officially commences.

It is unlikely for the production to begin anytime soon.

If the film manages to begin production sometime this year, then we can expect to see Rush Hour 4 around late 2024 or early 2025. Of course, this can still be delayed, considering the current status of the film.

Who Among The Cast Members Are Coming Back In Rush Hour 4?

We are still waiting for further announcements, including complete casting details for Rush Hour 4. However, the fourth installment of the film series would not be complete without lead actors Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker on board.

The two are the only mainstays in the series. Hence, we are expecting a lot of new faces for the sequel.

Meanwhile, Tzi Ma, who plays Ambassador Solon Han, might also return after appearing in the first and third movies.

Solon Han's daughter Soo-Yung Han is also among the mainstay characters but was portrayed by different actresses, Julia Hsu in the first film and Zhang Jingchu in the third.

Brett Ratner

Can We Expect The Same Production Team For Rush Hour 4?

The first three films were all directed by Brett Ratner and were released by Warner Bros.

However, Ratner will not be back for the fourth movie after facing a string of sexual harassment accusations from Olivia Munn, Natasha Henstridge, and four others.

Although he denied the accusations, Warner Bros has already announced in April 2018 that it would not renew its first-look deals and co-financing with Ratner and his company RatPac-Dune Entertainment.

Nevertheless, we will continue to monitor the latest development of the film for you.
