Hoorah! The Classic 90's Favourite 'Recess' Is Getting An Independent Live-Action Remake

It has nearly been 18 years since we saw TJ, Spinelli, Mikey, Gretchen, Vince, and Gus share screen space. But, the good news is that they are all coming back in a live-action remake.

'Recess' was one of the most popular and widely loved series that aired on Disney almost two decades back. But, good news for all the fans, it seems like we have not seen the last of TJ, Spinelli, Mikey, Gretchen, Vince, and Gus just as yet. An independent production team from Vancouver clearly agrees and they have announced that a non-profit fan film of the classic Disney cartoon will be made. The only difference being that the kids are now going to be all teenagers.

Yes, that's right! We will now be able to follow TJ and co. as they navigate their way through high school and tackle issues such as love, peer pressure, social media, and identity to name a few. The team behind this live-action Recess is AV Kid’s Crew and they describe themselves as ‘die-hard fans’ of the original animated show. They are currently fundraising to support their passion project.

According to Indiegogo, the official synopsis reads, "Picture 10-year-old you sitting in front of the TV, watching TJ, Spinelli, Gretchen, Vince, Mikey, Gus, Randall, the Ashleys and the rest of the colorful cast at 3rd Street Elementary School getting up to their usual hijinks. You lay your head to rest that night and dream about being part of this group and then awake 20 years later and think: ‘Hey, I wonder what happened to the Recess gang when they went to high school?’ Well, YOU’RE WELCOME, because we’re here to answer that question for you!"

The cast of this live-action movie is pretty impressive and it includes of Benjamin Wadsworth as TJ, Sean Depner as Mikey, Louriza Troncos Spinelli, Lillian Doucet-Roche as Gretchen, Fritzy-Klevans Destine as Vince, and Clive Holloway as Gus. Adam DiMarco will play playground snitch Randall. It goes without saying that the show won't be the same without The Ashley and Sydney Scotia, Brenna Llewellyn, Kelcey Mawema and Emilija Baranac have been chosen to play the role of this iconic group.

The filmmakers of this project are Jerome Yoo and Kent Donguines, the script will see Mikey getting heartbroken as the rest of the gang attempt to cheer him up. The production team is based in Vancouver, Canada and they are working on a voluntary basis and are therefore asking fellow fans of the beloved fans of the show to donate anything they can in order to take the project forward.
