The upcoming movie will be a 'Predator' prequel set 300 years in the past.
A new Predator movie is on the way! The movie will be a prequel called Prey and will be set in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. Prey is the fifth installment in the Predator franchise, which kicked off with its first film in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead. A sequel came out in 1990, led by Danny Glover. Later in 2010, Predators was released starring Adrien Brody. Finally, The Predator came out in 2018. There have also been crossovers like the Alien vs. Predator movies which came out in 2004 and 2007, reports Entertainment.ie. The crossover involved the monsters in Ridley Scott's Alien.
Now let's look at the latest from the franchise.
The story for the prequel follows a warrior who tries to protect her tribe against a highly evolved alien. Amber Midthunder will star in the leading role of Naru. Dan Trachtenberg, director of 10 Cloverfield Lane, is behind the project.

Apart from Midthunder, no other casting announcements have been made as of yet. The 24-year-old is excited about her upcoming role and celebrated the news on Instagram. "I'm beyond words feeling proud, humbled, and excited to finally be able to share this news and have been given this opportunity," Midthunder wrote in the caption. "It is time we see ourselves represented fully in mainstream Entertainment. As strong and human, by our own people. I can't wait for you all to see what we made this summer. Ʉra ako & pilamaye."
The Native American previously discussed the importance of Indigenous representation in the world of Entertainment. "To have a Native character and have it be female and strong, I think it's just important for Native people to see," she told Aubrey Plaza in July for Interview. "For my family or people on the reservation, I think that the more we see our own people doing things that we want to do, the more it breaks down the mental barrier to access."
John Davis previously spoke to Collider about the development of the film. He revealed that work went into the prequel while they were still shooting the 2018 film The Predator. He added, "It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work. It's the ingenuity of a human being who won't give up, who's able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force."
According to Comic Book, the film will be released on the streaming service Hulu in 2022, most likely without a theatrical release. Internationally, it will be available on Disney+ (via Star).
