Percy Jackson’s story was previously adapted into two different films starring Logan Lerman as the titular character but it failed to impress the audience and critics alike. When Is Percy Jackson And The Olympians Releasing?

On August 18, 2023, to mark Percy Jackson's birthday, Disney+ revealed the release date for the upcoming series, "Percy Jackson and the Olympians." The show is set to premiere on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

Going back to June 2022, Rick Riordan, the author of the Percy Jackson series, confirmed that production for "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" had officially commenced. Riordan shared a photo on his Instagram account, showing a director's chair with his name on it under a production tent. On the same day, Becky Riordan, Rick's wife and collaborator, also confirmed the start of filming through a tweet. She mentioned that the first day of shooting featured a scene with Grover and Percy in the first episode. Furthermore, the official Percy Jackson and the Olympians Twitter account provided an update, sharing an image of the clapboard and captioning it with, "First day of camp vibes."



 

What Is The Plot Of Percy Jackson And The Olympians?

Percy Jackson And The Olympians is the story of a teenage boy named Percy who finds out that he is actually a demigod and son of the Greek god Poseidon. The Disney+ Series will reportedly follow the story of the first book in the series, titled The Lightning Thief. According to THR, the synopsis of the series reads: “[Percy Jackson is just] coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Now Percy must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus.”

This series boasts a massive cast of some familiar faces from Hollywood but in the shoes of the protagonists, we have newcomers like The Adam Project fame, Walker Scobel as the protagonist Percy Jackson. Leah Sava Jeffries will be playing Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri is in the role of the satyr, Grover Underwood. Lin-Manuel Miranda joined the cast as Hermes and Jason Mantzoukas plays Dionysus. This series is created by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz and is distributed by Disney+.

Disney+ first released a 53-second-long teaser on September 11th, 2022. Then On August 18th, 2023, Disney+ released another teaser trailer. The trailer opens with Percy going down a mystical elevator, with on-screen text that reads “The gods are waiting.” “The stories that I had told you about Greek gods and Half-Bloods… they are real,” narrates a voice who we can only assume belongs to Percy's mom, Sally. Then there's a flash of monsters, Grovery's satyr form, warriors, swords, a first look at the united front of our main trio, and a booming welcome: “Percy Jackson, we've been expecting you.”
