Bandai Namco Teases Return Of Cult Classic PlayStation 1 Game: 'PAC-MAN WORLD'!

Video game enthusiasts have reason to cheer as Bandai Namco Entertainment America recently announced that they would be remaking a cult classic PlayStation 1 game, PAC-MAN WORLD, ComicBook.com reports. This version, dubbed PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC, will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on August 26, 2022.

The game will follow PAC-MAN who is courting adventure to search for his missing family members and friends. Bandai Namco describes it, “In PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC, PAC-MAN arrives home on his birthday to find the Ghosts have kidnapped PAC-MAN’s family & friends and ruined his party! PAC-MAN must set out to adventure through the six areas of Ghost Island to rescue his family and friends, and face off against the Ghosts’ boss, TOC-MAN!”

It is an immersive experience with new features including a new world of adventure where players can “dodge ghosts and other baddies, solve environmental puzzles and collect items through the six areas of Ghost Island: Pirate, Ruins, Space, Funhouse, Factory and Mansion- each featuring multiple levels and a unique boss battle challenge.” Furthermore, the game also added extended mobility for PAC-MAN aside from just running and stomping. He can now butt-bounce, rev-roll, and other more exciting forms of movement as he collects PAC-FRUIT and becomes invincible with the Chrome Suits. These are just a few of the exciting gameplay features. 

Rescuing members of the PAC-FAM and friends, PAC-MAN gains enough advantage to beat the boss challenge against the dreaded TOC-MAN. Gamers can also play this game in multiple modes including maze mode to play on a 3D maze platform and the original mode from the original PAC-MAN games once the quest mode has been completed. Bandai Namco has dubbed this game a modernized classic, saying, “This 3D action-adventure platformer is packed with intuitive gameplay, enhanced features, and a shiny new look for PAC-MAN and the Ghosts!”

A number of games launched on the original PlayStation console have been making a return. Most of this revival process was relegated to Sony’s new PlayStation Plus which features classic PS1 titles. However, with this remake route, Bandai Namco has taken a different direction from these classic returns. The original PAC-MAN WORLD first came out in 1999 and was later released in the GameBoy Advance in 2004. PAC-MAN WORLD 2 and PAC-MAN WORLD 3 were later released in 2002 and 2005 respectively. Now with this new game PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC, the creators say, “With enhanced graphics and features, Pac-Man World Re-PAC is platforming fun for experienced Pac-fans and new Pac-thusiasts!”
