"Eric" is a psychological thriller that centers on a father's desperation.

Benedict Cumberbatch in 'Eric'

Netflix released its debut trailer for 'Eric' recently, and it has quickly become among the most anticipated thriller series of the year. The protagonist of this psychological thriller series is Benedict Cumberbatch.

The show premieres on May 30, with notable faces like Dan Fogler ("Fantastic Beasts") and Gaby Hoffmann ("Goodbye World").

It's easy to say that the trailer captured viewers' interest, and after witnessing how strong Cumberbatch's portrayal of a helpless parent will be, expectations were even greater. Take a look at it:

Cumberbatch depicts Vincent, a distressed father, as he battles mental problems after looking for his son Edgar, who goes missing. Edgar had a special affection for a particular puppet monster named Eric thanks to the work of Vincent, a well-known puppeteer in New York. Vincent presents the puppet on live TV in the hopes that it will bring his son home since he is certain the toy contains some sort of hope.

Michael Ledroit, a committed investigator who works on the case and uncovers some disturbing information in the heart of New York, is portrayed by McKinley Belcher III.

Vincent's emotional distress and guilt over allowing his son to walk to school on that tragic morning will be explored in this six-part series. It will also show how relationships can be destroyed by desperation, including how far a parent may go in order to be reunited with their child.

In reality, Cumberbatch serves as the show's executive producer. “It is rooted in a lot of real-world issues, looking at parenthood, looking at marriage, looking at mental health, looking at the AIDS pandemic, but also the ongoing crises of homophobia, of racism in institutions,” he stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

This psychological thriller will only consist of six episodes, so there's a chance "Eric" won't drag on too long. Because mini-series are so short, they often do quite well because every second counts.

Based only on the teaser, "Eric" looks like a series that will take us on a very real and touching trip, with Cumberbatch showcasing his acting prowess in the title part.
