'My Hero Academia' Season 5 Recap and Ending Explained

The fifth season kicked off with the joint training session between the students of Class 1-A and 1-B. Class 1-A does emerge victorious (with a 3-1 score) but not before things take a turn for the worse when Midoriya Izuku's acquired quirk, One For All, goes awry. Miodriya discovers that he has acquired not just one, but several quirks from the previous owners of One For All. The "black whip" quirk gets activated during training wrecking havoc till 1-C's Shinso intervenes.

Number 2 hero, Hawks is keeping busy as he works with the League of Villains and it is revealed that he is undercover on behalf of the Pro Heroes Association. He learns about the underground uprising that is being set in motion by the Meta Liberation Army a radical group fighting for everyone's rights to use their quirk freely. He tried to send a coded message to the Number 1 hero, Endeavor, and tries to warn him of the coming of an army of people who are against the pro heroes.

During winter break Midoriya, Todoroki, and Bakugo join Endeavor for their internship and upgrade their skills and even rescue Todoroki's elder brother who gets kidnapped by a villain. Endeavor is a changed man who is trying to make amends with his family and be a better father and husband.

Meanwhile, Shigaraki is determined to become a worthy heir to All For One and is trying to prove his value to the Doctor. At the same time, he is challenged by the Meta Liberation Army who wants the League of Villains to be destroyed to redirect attention to their leader, Destro. We see the origins of the villain who grows up to become Shigaraki, born Tenko Shimura. His repressed memories of an abusive childhood come rushing back, fueling his decay quirk. He uses this upgrade in his power to beat the head of the Liberation Army who yields and proposes joining forces to bring down the hero society.

The Paranormal Liberation Front

Re-Destro, the descendant of Destro, merges the Meta Liberation Army with the League of Villains to form The Paranormal Liberation Front. Hawks who had been undercover discovers the new alliance and alerts the heroes. Aizawa and Present Mic learn about the true nature of Kurogiri, who was a Nomu built from the body of their high school best friend, Oboro Shirakumo. They learn from him that all this began at a hospital which is also the clue Hawks works with to narrow down on the benefactor for Shigaraki. This person is of course the Doctor who has been working with All For One.

What Is The Significance Of The Last Scene?

At that moment all of them receive a message about work-study and a message to assemble for an expeditionary operation.
