At the San Diego Comic-Con and then the D23 Expo held in Anaheim in September 2022, Marvel Studios revealed multiple projects of the MCU coming soon and one of them is Thunderbolts. After seeing Val appear in multiple projects like Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Black Widow, fans were curious to see how their involvement could come together in future projects and the answer is definitely here because her appearances seem to be paying off.

Coming to theatres soon, here is everything we know about Marvel’s Thunderbolts-

What is the plot of Thunderbolts?

In the comic book lore, the team is actually supposed to be led by Baron Helmut Zemo which is entirely possible here too but there may be some countering elements stopping from that happening. While the original intent of the Thunderbolts was to show that these villains could reform, Zemo brings together a bunch of villains and anti-heroes to defeat the Avengers and as a byproduct gain world domination, however, in this edition of the Thunderbolts, we see Val becoming the assumed leader of the group. Why, you ask?

Well, the last time we saw Val was in Black Widow when she revealed to Yelena Belova that it was Clint Barton who killed Natasha Romanoff which led her to a murderous rage peaking in the Hawkeye show. Before that, we saw her recruiting John Walker after he loses the trial and is dishonorably discharged from the army, losing the title of Captain America. For now, it is unclear what these morally gray characters have to do with each other, but it should be revealed soon. Bucky Barnes, who is now established as somewhat of a hero in the public eye definitely does not make sense on the team, but we can only speculate what his involvement could bring for the film.

What is the cast of Thunderbolts?

First and foremost, the recruiter Julia Louis-Dreyfus will be joining in as Val or La Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine. Joining her are Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Wyatt Russell (US Agent/John Walker), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost/Ava) and Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster).

It is entirely possible that we may see Helmut Zemo escape Wakandan prison (would not be the first, we’re looking at you Ulysses Klaue), which will give us Daniel Bruhl once again on the big screen after Captain America: Civil War. Additionally, this film could give us a chance to understand more about Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) and what she has been up to in the past few years.

Reportedly, Ayo Edebiri from the acclaimed series "The Bear" is set to join the project in a yet-to-be-disclosed role. Furthermore, according to recent reports from Deadline, it has been confirmed that Steven Yeun, known for his roles in "The Walking Dead," "Nope," and the critically acclaimed "Minari," will be making a significant addition to the ensemble cast.

When is Thunderbolts releasing in theatres?

Marvel Studios will be releasing Thunderbolts on December 20, 2024. It was first set to be released on July 26th, 2024 but that date has since been moved up to Christmas 2024.
