‘Maid’ Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

At a time when the subject of domestic violence is being so widely discussed, a series like Maid will help people understand the matter better. The Netflix series starring Margaret Qualley premiered on Netflix on October 1, 2021. It is based on Stephanie Land‘s memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive. The events of the series were based on the real-life experiences of Land who escaped an abusive relationship as a young mother and had to subsequently struggled to provide for her daughter by getting a job cleaning houses. The show had 10 episodes and was highly praised for its brilliant portrayal of such a sensitive topic. Here’s what you need to know about what to expect from the show in the future:

Will There Be Season 2 of Maid?

The show was based on Stephanie Land’s bestselling book and created for Netflix by Molly Smith Metzler as a limited series. The series concludes with a happy ending, but beware of spoilers ahead. Despite facing many obstacles, including her mother becoming homeless and her ex-boyfriend Sean threatening to take full custody of their daughter Maddy, Alex manages to save money by taking up multiple housekeeping jobs. Against all odds, she secures admission to a university in Montana and pursues her dream of becoming a writer. There is no official announcement from Netflix about another season of the show, but unless they decide to continue Alex’s story beyond the book, it is unlikely. 

What Was The Plot Of Maid?

Alex leaves her abusive boyfriend, Sean, and decides to get herself and their toddler daughter into the safety of a shelter. She then gets a job cleaning houses for Value Maids. We then see Alex’s struggles with raising a young child, while dealing with her abusive ex-boyfriend as well as her own dysfunctional family, homelessness, and navigating the complicated conditions of government assistance. She, fortunately, meets some people who support her and her dream of becoming a writer. She decides to get financial assistance for her college and decides to continue working as a maid to get through college. Despite all the challenges ahead, Alex is optimistic about the new future waiting for her.

Who Was Cast In Maid?

Margaret Qualley was cast as Alex, who even got her nominated for Best Actress at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards and the Golden Globe Awards as well. Nick Robinson played Sean, Alex’s abusive boyfriend, and Maddy’s father. Rylea Nevaeh Whittet played Maddy. Andie MacDowell played the role of Alex’s eccentric mother Paula. MacDowell is Qualley’s mother in real-life as well and this was their first project together. “I was up in Canada quarantining and the role of my mom was still open, and it dawned on me that I’ve always wanted to work with my mom,” Qualley had stated. “And then, I was like, ‘Whoa, this is it. My mom’s gotta do this.'”
