Keanu Reeves Reportedly Returning To Play Constantine In Justice League Dark Movie

Keanu Reeves once played Constantine in the movie of the same name back in 2005. Now it seems WGTC has reported that the Matrix/John Wick star has been pegged to reprise his role in the upcoming Justice League Dark movie

Keanu Reeves

We've known for quite some time now the Matrix/John Wick star Keanu Reeves has expressed interest in playing the role of Constantine once again as he did in 2005. And if We Got This Covered's latest scoop is to be believed, that might turn out to be just the case.

Keanu Reeves

The announcement of a Justice League Dark movie is interesting considering there were plans prior to the formation of the DC Extended Universe. Rumors began circulating in November 2012 that Guillermo del Toro (known for working on Pacific Rim, Pan's Labyrinth, and The Shape Of Water) was working on a film based on Justice League Dark with the title Heaven Sent. Del Toro would later confirm the rumors in January 2013 saying that he was indeed working on a Justice League Dark movie and was looking for a screenwriter at the time. He later revealed that Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, The Deadman, Zatara, and the Spectre were to be characters of the film.

With a name like Guillermo Del Toro attached to a film, virtually anyone would be genuinely ecstatic about the film. Fans were very hopeful that this would be his next big project once he had finished production of the gothic horror Crimson Peak. However, the film never quite got off the ground and was ultimately stuck in developmental hell for almost 4 years until Del Toro eventually departed from the project.

Justice League Dark

What happened? Before all of this went down, Del Toro was quite hopeful that his film would make it to the big screen, He hoped that the film would be connected not only with other superhero films starting with Man of Steel but also the TV series of Constantine, even going as far as to hire the same TV actor Matt Ryan for the role of the title character.

Then in July 2014, Del Toro said that JLD would become a separate film from the universe of the Man of Steel. Del Toro said that the time to reunite both Justice League Dark and Man of Steel would only come when Warner Brothers and DC knew that they are quantifiable.

The script for the film was done, and all Del Toro required was Warner Brothers to give him the okay so that production could finally start. Unfortunately, It started to go awfully quiet afterward and then the next thing we knew, Del Toro was no longer part of the Justice League Dark project.

After Del Toro departed, Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) served as his replacement until he too left within a year to focus on directing Chaos Walking.

Batman and Constantine

But now, the movie is back in development once again and this time We Got This Covered, the biggest entertainment news breakers who are hardly ever wrong these days, have their sources to back it up. And these sources are the same ones who broke the news on a possible Green Lantern series dropping on HBO Max, and a Swamp Thing film being developed (both of which have been confirmed by Bloody Disgusting). Not only has that, but Warner Brothers, apparently wants Keanu Reeves to reprise his role as Constantine.

If the reputation of these sources is anything to go by, this may very well be the case. But since nothing has been confirmed completely, we should take this rumor with a grain of salt and wait until we have something legit to go by.
