'John Wick 4' will finally start filming this year, star Ian McShane reveals.

The fourth installment of the  'John Wick' film series is set for a May 2022 release, and it looks like the production team will start rolling the cameras very soon.

McShane, who plays Wick’s enemy, Winston, and owner of the Continental Hotel, says he is confident that they will start filming John Wick 4 "at some point" this year.

"Keanu and I exchanged New Year’s greetings and said, ‘Hope to see you this year.’ I know the script is being written, and they’re hoping to do it this year. I know they announced they were gonna do (John Wick 4) and (John Wick 5) together, but who knows. The studios announce all sorts of things," McShane told Collider, adding: "No doubt, at some point this year, we’re gonna do John Wick 4."

Last year, Deadline reported that both 'John Wick' 4 and 5 will get filmed simultaneously.

During a Lionsgate earnings call, CEO John Feltheimer said:

"We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our John Wick action franchise, with John Wick 4 slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022. We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 & 5 back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year.”

Hopefully, everything falls according to plan, and that the upcoming sequels will manage to begin filming this year, despite the Coronavirus pandemic.

The first film of the John Wick film series debuted in 2014, starring Keanu Reeves.

The film was well-received by audience and critics alike and was considered Reeves's best performances and one of the best action films of 2014. The film grossed $86 million in the box office, paving the way for two more sequels, 'John Wick: Chapter 2' and  'John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum', which released in 2017 and May 2019, respectively.

Both sequels also became immensely successful, leading to the announcement of 'John Wick' 4 and 5.

'John Wick' 4 will release on Memorial Day weekend 2022, while 'John Wick' 5's release date is yet to be announced.

Speaking about John Wick's future in the upcoming sequels, Chad Stahleski, who has co-directed or directed all three films, said back in 2019 that the character might not have a happy ending.

“John may survive all this shit, but at the end of it, there’s no happy ending. He’s got nowhere to go,” Stahelski told Indiewire. “Honestly, I challenge you right now, here’s a question to you: How do you fucking want me to end it? Do you think he’s going to ride off into the fucking sunset? He’s killed 300 fucking people, and he’s just going to [walk away], everything’s okay? He’s just going to fall in love with a love interest? If you’re this fucking guy, if this guy really exist[ed], how is this guy’s day going to end? He’s fucked for the rest of his life. It’s just a matter of time.”

Well, that sounds quite a depressing way to end it.
