The Will Smith Oscar slap incident has been the talk of the town for the past week and a half. Smith hit Chris Rock who was on stage at the award ceremony after he poked fun at Jada Pinkett Smith's hair loss. Smith has been criticized for his violent confrontation on live television while Rock has been called out for making an insensitive joke about Jada's alopecia, an autoimmune disorder. She is now opening up about the incident that has spiraled out of control with severe consequences for her husband, including multiple projects being put on hold.

Jada has stated that she is not "angry with" her husband for slapping Rock but wishes he had not done it. A source close to the couple told Us Weekly, "It was in the heat of the moment and it was him overreacting. He knows that, she knows that. They’re in agreement that he overreacted." At the awards ceremony, Rock said, in reference to her bald head, "Jada I love you...G.I Jane 2 can't wait to see it." Jada could be seen visibly rolling her eyes onscreen as the camera panned to where she was sitting with her husband. Smith also had an amiable smile on his face but moments later, he was on stage and had slapped Rock.

Since then, Smith has offered a public apology to Rock, stating: "Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong." He added, "Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally." Jada has, in the past, expressed how she had a difficult time coming to terms with her condition. It has been a long journey of self-acceptance for her.

Smith has resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy on the other hand has launched a formal investigation and disciplinary process that is set to take place on April 18. The consequences of his actions may include "suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions permitted by the Bylaws and Standards of Conduct." In a statement, the academy had also said: "The Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy's Standards of Conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy."

Will and Jada Smith will reportedly take on the controversy on the next Red Table episode, as per Radar Online.
