Is 'Legend Of Zelda' Adaptation Happening On Netflix?

Rumors are circulating that a TV series adaptation for the popular video game franchise is coming to Netflix, with Tom Holland reportedly eyed to portray Link.

Legend Of Zelda

‘Legend of Zelda’ is among the most popular and adored video game franchises of all time.

Created by Japanese game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, ‘Legend of Zelda’ was primarily developed and published by Nintendo.

With its massive success, it's normal to expect the game to be adapted into a television series, a trend that's becoming quite popular over the years.

For years, rumors have been going around that the adaptation is coming to Netflix.

Could that be true? Let's find out.

Is A ‘Legend of Zelda’ TV Series Adaptation Coming to Netflix?

The truth is, Netflix still hasn't confirmed that 'Legend of Zelda' is coming to the streaming platform, and Nintendo even denied the existence of the project in the past.

Rumors started around 6 years ago after the Wall Street Journal reported that Netflix was developing a live-action series based on Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda franchise.

Nintendo CEO was quick to deny the report.

“As of now, I have nothing new to share with you in regard to the use of our IPs for any TV shows or films, but I can at least confirm that the article in question is not based on correct information,” says Iwata via Den Of Geek.

3 years later, in 2018, The Wrap reported that Adi Shankar was in talks to produce a TV series on Zelda.

Shankar played the lead role for Netflix’s animated 'Castlevania' series.

The actor posted on Instagram that he's working with a Japanese company for an adaptation of an iconic video game series into a television series.

“Working with an iconic Japanese gaming company to adapt one of their iconic video game series into a series.”

People assumed that Adi was talking about 'Legend Of Zelda.' However, a month later, the actor announced that he would actually be working on the Devil May Cry series.

The rumors died down throughout 2019 and 2020, but then the gossip was reignited in September 2020 after We Got This Covered reported that Tom Holland is being eyed for the adaptation's lead role.

The entertainment website claimed that the information came from the same source who tipped them about Ben Affleck's return for The Flash and that a Witcher prequel is in development long before it was officially announced.

Aside from that, there's another reason for fans to cling on to their beliefs that the 'Legend of Zelda' adaptation is coming to Netflix.

An IMDB page for the adaptation exists, and it reveals that the series is currently under production, with Netflix as the distributor.

Nintendo is listed as the production company behind the series.

We know that fans could edit the IMDB page, but the fact that it existed for 2 years without Netflix or Nintendo taking it down makes it seem a little suspicious.

Conclusion.

The rumors about 'Legend of Zelda' coming to Netflix remains as it is: a rumor.

There is still no official announcement from Netflix or Nintendo about the project. We'll be resting our swords and shields on this till we get an official confirmation.
