Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers for the Legends of Tomorrow season 7 finale.

After seven seasons of Legends of Tomorrow, the CW show has been canceled, despite getting no proper ending. DC's time-travel drama, Legends of Tomorrow—a spinoff from Arrow and The Flash—has garnered its own fan base, going on to be one of the more successful shows on the network. The DC show was the latest in the Arrowverse series to cross 100 episodes in its current season 7. It was showrunner Keto Shimizu who confirmed that the show had been canceled, reported Screenrant. The cancelation of the series is believed to be a result of owners trying to sell the CW network and it has left the fans at sea with a lot of unanswered questions hanging over from season 7.

The finale of season 7 of the series—Knocked Down, Knocked Up—was perfectly set up for season 8 but there's no knowing now how it would have ended. One of the major storylines in season 7 was the fight between Gideon, the evil artificial intelligence, and the motley group, Legends. The final episode shows the Legends living peacefully away from timeline policing, with Sara Lance even expecting a child. The Legends then travel back in time after learning that Gwyn has traveled back to 1916 Mametz Wood, France, to replace Alun, his lost lover, with the robotic version. While traveling back in time, the legends meet DC legend Booster Gold, played by Donald Faison.

Some of the more memorable storylines from season 7 included the debut of Booster Gold, Sara's pregnancy, and her baby inheriting her regenerative powers. One of the major reveals and twists of the season was Booster Gold being the father of former Legends leader Rip Hunter. There was a lot of scope and threads being built for season 8, only for it to be canceled. Another highlight was Alun, who, shortly after being rescued, joins the Waveriders. The show stars Victor Garber, Brandon Routh, Arthur Darvill, Caity Lotz, Franz Drameh, Ciara Renée, Falk Hentschel, Amy Pemberton, Dominic Purcell, Wentworth Miller, Matt Letscher, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Keiynan Lonsdale, Jes Macallan, Matt Ryan, Ramona Young, Courtney Ford, Olivia Swann, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, and Lisseth Chavez.

The cast of the series was heartbroken after learning the series had been canceled. Caity Lotz who played Sara Lance took to Instagram after learning of the series' fate, writing, "I am bummed! I am sad, I’m going to miss it so much. Working on Legends has been amazing. It’s been such a journey and I am so endlessly grateful for it, and for you guys. So, thank you. To all the Legends of Tomorrow fans out there we love you guys so much. And it has been a blast."

Nick Zano was already set for an end to his character Nick Heywood/Steel after season 7. He paid a long tribute to the show, his fellow cast members, and the fans. “It’s with a grateful, appreciative, full heart I say goodbye to my Legends family,” wrote Zano on Instagram. “It’s been the absolute most insane, fulfilling experiences I’ve ever had BUT the time has come for Nate/Steel to say goodbye to the greatest, most loyal, most ride or die, fan base…” Zano's character saved Alun at the cost of his superpower. The mustard gas eroded his steel exterior, causing him to lose his superpower and he returned to the totem to live with his girlfriend Zari.

While Legends of Tomorrow may have come to a close, there's still scope for some of the characters to return via other Arrowverse shows. It's a shame that one of the strongest shows on CW with a strong fan base has called it curtains, leaving fans in the dark, wondering what could have been.
