Here Is A List Of 20 Best Romantic Comedy Movies Of All Time

All of us love romantic comedies from time to time, so we have prepared a list of twenty best romantic movies of all time.

The way to make any love story work is to take a pair and make them fall in love. But there is nothing like a 'best' romantic comedy movie. In the romantic comedy movies, someone laughs when something funny happens or romantic when their heart swells, for better or for worse, and we have no right to say why one of these should top another. Even though it sounds simple to make a romantic comedy, it is actually not. To make a classic romantic comedy, you need skill, chops, expert timing, the right chemistry among your leads and the ability to pull heartstrings and hit funny bones at the same time. It is a much tougher act to put all of this together, create a balance, and it is really impressive when the filmmakers and actors actually do pull it off. Here is a list of 20 of the best Romantic comedy movies of all time.

1. My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Written by  Nia Vardalos, this movie is actually several movies baked into one. It has all the elements of romance, comedy, and cultural shock, along with the healing power of Windex. Vardalos’s ode to Greek culture in all its beauty is a must watch and this movie will stay with you a long time, even after watching.

2. Crazy Rich Asians

One of the most entertaining movies to come out last year, the story of the movie revolves around Rachel Chu who is happy to accompany her longtime boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. Once she reaches the venue, she is extremely surprised to learn that her boyfriend is extremely wealthy and he's considered one of the country's most eligible bachelors.

3. Something’s Gotta Give

The Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton starrer movie is equally an entertaining and hilarious movie to watch. When it came out, many people inside the industry thought that a film about people in their 50s and 60s finding love might be a difficult sell to the audience, but the audience was ready for it and welcomed the movie with open arms. The audience was ready for a mature romance, especially the one where a hilarious sex scene involving Keaton’s character takes Nicholson’s blood pressure to make sure he doesn’t have a heart attack during the act.

4. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

From the very beginning, this movie is as frothy as the names of the lead characters; Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry. The movie centers around the 'cool' girl that came to work in Vogue and is charmed by a mildly chauvinistic man, even though their relationship is doomed from the very beginning. She’s a writer at a women’s magazine trying to carve out space where she can write about subjects of substance, and for her recent story, it requires her to ensnare a man and torture him to the point of breaking up. On the other hand, the man is simply trying to prove he can make any woman fall in love with him.

5. The Proposal

This Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds starrer already has a very loyal fan base, thanks to the unusual storyline and how unusually two people fall in love with each other, despite being so different.

6. 500 Days of Summer

Love is not easy. It is hard, frustrating, and it also requires a lot of time and effort. This movie is a lot different from the others on this list because it shows that despite our best efforts, despite loving someone with everything that we have, it sometimes does not work out. The movie shows the reality of love and that is what makes this movie worth the watch.

7. Crazy, Stupid, Love

The quintessential story of a playboy meets his match who manages to coax an actual conversation and makes him drop his guard. But, there is a huge twist to the movie. It is definitely in the list of one of the guilty pleasure movies of all time. Another reason to watch this movie? Shirtless Ryan Gosling.

8. 10 Things I Hate About You

The Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles led movie is still among the favorites of the rom-com lovers. One of the biggest hits of the 90s, this movie has captured the heart of millions of teenagers and adults alike and it still continues to do so.

9. Amelie

This movie was a huge crossover hit movie of the French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet and the movie that inspired a thousand bob haircuts. Richard Curtis’s Four Weddings and a Funeral seemed determined to unravel the traditional rom-com, by wearing the sentiments on the sleeve. An important central character is killed off and the movie's main lead gets married to another man at one point. This movie is quirky, charming, and loveable all at the same time and that is what makes it a must watch.

13. Notting Hill

Ah, this movie had everything that you can wish for.  Hugh Grant playing the role of a young man and Julia Roberts basically playing herself; a young and beautiful actress who falls in love with a simple man. Who can forget the classic dialogue? 'I am just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her'.

14. Sleepless in Seattle

This movie begins with Tom Hanks mourning the loss of his beloved wife and mother. The story of how he finds a second chance in love via a radio show is something which will tug the strings in your heart and make you believe in love and how magical the feeling can be.

15. Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day tells the story of a perfect cynic who finds love. It is also the ultimate rom-com movie for people who do not like the typical run-in-the-mill story. The movie tells the story of a weatherman who is sent to Punxsutawney, P.A., to cover the pointless annual ritual of a groundhog looking for its shadow. He instead gets caught in a time loop in which he’s repeatedly forced to relive the previous 24 hours. Unfortunately, it is the same day, he gets turned down by his producer, Rita, played by Andie MacDowell. Definitely, one of the must-watch in the list

16. Bridget Jones’s Diary

At some point in time, all of us have found ourselves sitting at home with dangerous quantities of wine and cake, belting out “All by Myself” alone. Bridget Jones is one such character that we identify ourselves with at some point in our lives. The movie is complete with a love triangle that Bridget falls into, and the two roles are brilliantly played by Hugh Grant and Colin Firth.

17. When Harry Met Sally

Regarded as one of the Hail Mary's of the rom-com genre, the movie tells the story of two graduates who met by chance and develop a short-term friendship. But as fate would have it, they meet each other again after five years and are forced to deal with how they feel about each other.

18. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

One of the first and foremost Netflix Original romantic comedy movies in recent times, and it tells the story of a teenager's love letter that is exposed and wreaks havoc in her life. This movie sets the right tone for all the teen dramas for the foreseeable future with non-white leads. And along with it, it also sets a new era for male romantic lead: a guy who, rather than being a charming alpha asshole is just a nice, chill guy who is super easy to get along with.

19. Jerry Maguire

This movie tells the story of a down-on-his-luck sports agent who is desperately holding onto the only loyal people in his life. This movie is one of the coming out of the age love stories and the speech by Tom Cruise where he says 'You Complete Me' made us all go weak in the knees. A definitive watch for all the rom-com lovers.

20. 50 First Dates

The Drew Barrymore Adam Sandler starrer movie is one of the most famous romantic comedies of all time. The plot of the story revolves around Henry who falls in love with Lucy, who suffers from short-term memory loss. Lucy can never remember meeting him, so Henry has to jog her memory afresh each day and pray that she too loves him.
