With No Time To Die, the latest James Bond movie hitting the theatres, another era of the spy film franchise has come to an end. The film stars Daniel Craig in his fifth and final Bond film.

The Daniel Craig era of James Bond is coming to an end and it has been well known for a while now, with fans speculating about who the next 007 lead would be. There has been plenty of speculation and people hoping that there would finally be the first Black, Asian, or woman to play James Bond after five decades of the franchise's existence. Among the front runners for consideration of the role included Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, Regé-Jean Page, Lashana Lynch, among others.

Now, Cavill is revealing that he would be thrilled to step into the role of James Bond. The Superman actor has been brought up in conversations about playing the next Bond over the years and he has also expressed his willingness to be a part of the franchise. Cavill stated: "If Barbara and Mike are interested in me in any capacity to be a part of their movies, then I will gladly have that discussion with them, and that would be something I'd be very keen to explore further," referring to the James Bond producers.

In 2006, after Pierce Brosnan stepped down from the franchise, the producers were on the lookout for a new Bond for Casino Royale. Director Martin Campbell has mentioned that Cavill was the only actor besides Daniel Craig in serious contention for the role at the time. Unfortunately, Cavill had been passed over for the role for being too young. He then landed the role of Superman and has been able to prove his prowess for action sequences. He even did well to show off his skills in his role in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Now, with all these experiences and at the age of 38, he might be the next person to fill in the shoes of the iconic character. He has even proven his versatility with his lead role in The Witcher which has become a global phenomenon.

If the lead role as James Bond slips through his fingers, Cavill has said he would even love to play a Bond villain, a role which is just as iconic to fill. Either way, fans are eager to find out who the next James Bond will be and especially if Cavill's years of patience will pay off.

After 15 years, there will be a new James Bond, a role which is considered to be the pinnacle of success for actors. Craig had been hinting at leaving the franchise for a long time. At the time of the release of Spectre, when asked if he was up for another movie as James Bond, he had famously said, "Now? I’d rather … slash my wrists." But the film had been made in such a way that it would need for Craig's reprisal one last time. Now, the role is up for grabs again.
