ABC's longest running primetime show is coming back for another season!

Grey's Anatomy

'Grey's Anatomy' is officially coming back for one more season!

The medical drama series continues to prove that it has more to offer, even after more than 15 years of dominating ABC's primetime.

Several big names in the cast list have already signed a new deal to star in the upcoming season.

Here's everything you need to know about 'Grey's Anatomy' season 18.

'Grey's Anatomy' Returns For Season 18

'Grey's Anatomy' fans, you deserve great news!

The show is officially renewed for season 18 on May 10, 2021. The renewal announcement came a few weeks before season 17 finished airing its remaining episodes.

“The writers, directors, casts, and crews of Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 worked so hard to bring these shows to life this past season,” Showrunner Krista Vernoff said via Deadline following the renewal announcement. “Keeping each other safe on set while paying tribute to the front-line heroes and first responders has been a challenge and a privilege. I’ve been truly blown away — particularly by our tireless crews — as they reinvented the TV-making wheel. Thank you to ABC and ABC Signature for the support and extraordinary partnership through this unprecedented season. We are so grateful for the opportunity to tell more stories.”

When Will 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 18 Release?

ABC is yet to attach a release date for 'Grey's Anatomy' season 18. The renewal was just recently announced, which means that season 18 might not be here until 2022.

The past seasons of 'Grey's Anatomy' often premiere every September, except season 17, which premiered in November due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The new season might go back to its September schedule if there will be no problems encountered during production.

What Is The Possible Plot Of 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 18?

The 17th and final episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' season 18 aired on June 3, 2021. There were plenty of heartbreaking scenes and we even had to say goodbye to some of our favorite characters.

Meredith survived but had to readjust to the lingering side effects of Covid-19 before returning to surgery. Andrew DeLuca died after getting stabbed by the captor of his patient, who is also a sex-trafficking victim. His sister, Carina DeLuca, is grieving over his death. Meanwhile, Jackson Avery decided to leave Grey-Sloan for good to lead the Catherine Fox Foundation in Boston. The actor is confirmed to be leaving after 12 years in the show.

Aside from giving us a continuation of the character's stories, season 18 will likely continue to include the Covid-19 pandemic in its plot.

Speaking to StyleCaster in April 2021, 'Grey's Anatomy' star Camilla Luddington revealed that season 18 might continue to touch on the impact of the pandemic in the lives of the characters.

“On a personal level, I would love to have another season just so that we can show coming out on the other side of COVID,” the actress said. “I think it would be great for us to be at Joe’s bar next season and show what life looks like after COVID.” Of course, the pandemic is still ongoing, so it’s possible Season 18 could depict this “new normal.”

'Grey's Anatomy' Season 18 Cast: Who Are Returning?

Ellen Pompeo will be back to lead the cast of season 18. She will reprise her role as Dr. Meredith Grey, the chief of general surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle.

Pompeo signed another contract that will increase her paycheck from the $20 million per year salary she got for the several past seasons.

Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. have also signed a new deal to reprise their roles as chief of surgery Miranda Bailey and Dr. Richard Webber, respectively.

Also on board for season 18 are Kevin McKidd as Dr. Owen Hunt, Kim Raver as Dr. Teddy Altman, and Camilla Luddington as Dr. Jo Wilson.

Unfortunately, two main cast members of the show will no longer be back for season 18. Giacomo Gianniotti will no longer return as Dr. Andrew DeLuca after dying in the March episode.

Jesse Williams has previously announced that he will be leaving the series after 12 seasons. So we are not expecting his character, Dr. Jackson Avery, to return for season 18 anymore.

The following cast members are also highly likely to reprise their roles:

Caterina Scorsone as Dr. Amelia Shepherd
Richard Flood as Dr. Cormac Hayes
Alex Landi as Dr. Nico Kim
Kelly McCreary as Dr. Maggie Pierce
Greg Germann as Dr. Tom Koracick
Jake Borelli as Dr. Levi Schmitt
Chris Carmack as Dr. Atticus "Link" Lincoln
Anthony Hill as Dr. Winston Ndugu
Debbie Allen as Dr. Catherine Fox
Jason George as Ben Warren
Jaicy Elliot as Dr. Taryn Helm
Lisa Vidal as Dr. Alma Ortiz
Melissa DuPrey as Dr. Sara Ortiz
Nikhil Shukla as Dr. Reza Khan
Robert I. Mesa as Dr. James Chee
Zaiver Sinnett as Dr. Zander Perez
