Even before 'Grand Theft Auto 5' was released on September 17, 2013, the rumor mill for GTA 6 already began working.

But who are we to blame? A sixth installment for the long-running game series is just an inevitable thing to happen.

Here we try to address all your questions about GTA 6, give you the latest news and updates, including hot online rumors about the game.

GTA 6 Release Date: When Is GTA 6 Coming Out?

With the success of the Grand Theft Auto series, it is just a matter of time before the release of the sixth installment. As to when exactly is the biggest question we can't answer yet.

But the good-ole paper trail could give us some clues.

A recent SEC filing by Rockstar's parent company Take-Two claims that they anticipate a spike in advertising expenditures during the fiscal year 2024, for a total of almost $90 million.

That amount of money is what you would expect for their next huge releases, not just for an average game that is on T2's slate.

In May 2020, A T2 representative told Games industry Biz that the marketing spike is related to third-party companies, not an internal studio like Rockstar.

Nonetheless, the timing seems fitting. Red Dead Redemption 2's launched in October 2018, which means that the company may have rolled out full production focus on GTA 6 after. If that did happen, then we're expecting the game to be ready in around 5 years in time (late 2023).

Rockstar teased GTA6 as early as 2013, with Rockstar North’s former President Leslie Benzies telling Develop magazine:

“We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we’ve got some ideas,” said Benzies in the interview. “We’ve got about 45 years’ worth of ideas we want to do. We’ll pick the right ones. It comes from the idea first. Where it is going to be set is the first question. That then defines the missions; you’re doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the mission in."

However, that's almost it. Rockstar has not released an official announcement or confirmation for the game, but this doesn't stop rumors and leaks from coming out.

GTA 6 Maps And Settings: Where Will The Setting Be For GTA 6?

As Rockstar mentioned back in 2013, the company has to evaluate a plethora of choices before they could come up with the map for GTA 6.

There are still no follow-up reports if whether or not Rockstar finally decided the setting.

In 2012, Benzies told IGN that they envision putting all the Grand Theft Auto cities in one game.

"At some point, we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas, " Benzies said, adding: “In that context, re-imagining Vice City would be very interesting.”

But of course, that statement was almost 8 years old, and there's no way of telling if that vision will finally happen in GTA 6.

In 2013, GTA 5's Dan Houser told The Guardian that they are interested in London as a setting, even if it doesn't end up being part of the GTA series.

"I think for us, my gut feeling is, GTA London was cool for the time, but games were more limited then. These days I think we would love to set a game in the UK, set in London, whatever, but I don't know if it would be a GTA game. I think there are plenty of great stories we could tell about the UK, great environments to showcase, great gameplay mechanics that could have a UK bent to them—I just don't think it would be a GTA necessarily."

GTA 6 Rumors And Leaks

A Reddit post by user JackOLantern1982 revealed a total of 23 details about GTA 6. The post has since been deleted, but numerous gaming websites were quick to report on his claims.

Here are some of the key points of the rumors courtesy of GamesRadar.

The rumor claimed that GTA 6 has been in development since 2012 and is codenamed PROJECT AMERICAS because it takes place over multiple countries: namely, Brazil in a fictional city based on Rio de Janeiro and Vice City in the US. The user also revealed that the game is heavily influenced by Netflix's 'Narcos,' a series about the beginnings of the cocaine trade.

It also claimed that our car in the game will move like the horses in Red Dead Redemption 2 and that it would serve both as our storage and transport.

There are plenty of rumors floating around in the anticipation of the game, but Rockstar is yet to confirm any of them.

Is GTA 6 Coming to PC? How About Consoles?

We are pretty confident it will. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are both enjoying immense popularity on PC, so it feels just right for Rockstar to take full advantage of the platform.

Rockstar released its own Games Launcher on PC in 2019, so it doesn't make sense if they wouldn't host future games there, including GTA 6.

The game is also likely to come to consoles after a 1-2 years gap, just like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 in the past.

Conclusion:

GTA 6 is not confirmed yet, although there are early talks about it in the past years. We still do not know how far along it is in terms of development or when it would release. There are tons of rumors surrounding the game, but till we get an official word from Rockstar, we should treat these with a pinch of salt.
