Stranger Things’ David Harbour and The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal are set to star in a new HBO Original limited series titled My Dentist’s Murder Trial, Variety reports.

The show is based on the New Yorker article titled My Dentist’s Murder Trial: Adultery, false identities, and a lethal sedation, written by James Lasdun. The story follows a Dr. Gilberto Nunez who was indicted in 2015 for killing his friend Thomas Kolman by getting him “to ingest a substance that caused his death,” according to Deadline.

As the New Yorker article mentions, “There were also two forgery counts: allegedly, Nunez had been posing as a C.I.A. agent. He’d apparently told people that he was authorized to implant tracking devices in patients’ teeth. It wasn’t the kind of news you wanted to hear about your family dentist.” Lasdun is not lying, this true crime thriller will send chills down anyone’s bones. Nunez was having an affair with Kolman’s wife Linda when he died. While the dentist was found guilty of the forgery counts, he wasn’t found guilty of murder. He still received a prison sentence for the fraud charges.

In the much-awaited HBO series, Pascal will be playing the strategist Dr. Gilberto Nunez. However, it is unclear whether Harbour will be playing the victim, Thomas Kolman or the article’s author, James Lasdun, whose long-time family dentist was Dr. Nunez. The show is written and pilot-directed by Steve Conrad who has previously helmed Patriot and Perpetual Grace, LTD

Pascal and Harbour will also serve as executive producers with Bruce Terris, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch for Escape Artists as well as Molly Allen, MGM Television and James Lasdun. Escape Artists’ Taylor Latham will co-executive produce the series.

As of now, there has been no news regarding the rest of the cast or when the show may be making its debut on HBO. Considering the shining laurels for both the actors, the announcement is incentive enough for fans to be excited about this project. Pascal is known for his work in Disney+’s The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, Netflix’s Narcos and HBO’s Game of Thrones, as well as features like Wonder Woman 1984, Triple Frontier, and Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Pascal will also be starring in the network’s The Last of Us adaptation set to premiere in 2023.

Meanwhile, Harbour is widely known for his Emmy-nominated role in Stranger Things. Additionally, he has also worked in Q Force, Manhattan, and Rake as well as films like Black Widow, Black Mass, The Equalizer, and Hellboy. Conrad has written for films like The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Wonder and The Pursuit of Happyness, giving him an edge. The excitement for this true-crime thriller is slowly starting to build up!
