Christian Bale Has A Very Specific Condition To Reprise His Iconic Batman Role Again

The actor expresses that he wasn't ever approached to reprise the role but he would be open to doing so under some special circumstances.

The Dark Knight

For all those missing the Dark Knight trilogy with Christian Bale, there is a glimmer of hope. Bale said in a recent interview with Comicbook.com that he would be open to playing the masked vigilante again, however, Christopher Nolan has to be leading at the helm. With many actors reprising their iconic roles like Tobey Maguire in Spider-man: No Way Home, and Michael Keaton picking up the Batman suit again for Batgirl, Bale was asked if he was ever asked to play Gotham’s crusader again, however, there have been no attempts.

“No, no, no. Nobody, nobody reaches out to me or they keep me like a mushroom, keep me in the dark and feed me sh-t,” Bale explained. Speaking of his conditions to play Batman again he said, “For me, that would be a matter of Chris Nolan, if he ever decided to do it again and if he chose to come my way again, then yeah, I would consider it because that was always our pact between each other is we would just stick to it. We said we would only ever make three. And then I said to myself, and I'd only ever make it with Chris.”

Christian Bale is no stranger to the comic book universe. This time, he appears in Thor: Love and Thunder as Gorr the God Butcher. His performance has been receiving high praise. Some even liken it to Heath Ledger’s portrayal of Joker in The Dark Knight. His work in the universe includes the trilogy starting with Batman Begins followed by The Dark Knight and finally concluding with The Dark Knight Rises. The highly popular trilogy ended in 2012. However, Batman is like our generation’s Hamlet, as Mark Ruffalo would put it. Everyone would get a chance to play it someday. Previously, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, and Michael Keaton have gotten the opportunity to don the black suit. Currently, Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson play the revered character.

Turning the conversation towards Thor: Love and Thunder, Bale looks back on taking props from the set. He says, “I have the sword, you know, I have that,” Bale said, referencing the Necrosword his Gorr character wields in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film. “I've got the Batman cowls as well, so that's not a bad collection, is it?” he added. “I do keep it private. I don't like my house to be filled with the film memorabilia, so they're in very quiet corners.”

Thor: Love and Thunder hits theatres on July 8, 2022. The Dark Knight trilogy is available to stream on PrimeVideo.
