Will Joanna still return for a fifth season?
'Burden of Truth' is a Canadian series created by Brad Simpson. It follows Joanna Hanley, a corporate lawyer returning to her hometown to take up a complex case involving a massive pharmaceutical company and a group of girls getting an inexplicable disease.
As she dives deeper into the case, she ends up unraveling a shocking truth.
The legal drama debuted on CBC on January 10, 2018. It later got released in America on July 25, 2018, on The CW.
The series earned praise from critics and got patronized by the audience.
Viewers admired its intricate character development and storyline. Kristin Kreuk also received applause for her performance.
The fourth season of the series arrived on January 28, 2021, and concluded on March 18, 2021. Will the show still return for more?
Let's find out.
Sadly, 'Burden of Truth' season 5 is not happening. On March 18, 2021, the show announced that season 4 would be the final run for the series.
The show's official Facebook page shared the heart-breaking news.
“After four incredible seasons, we’re bringing our Burden of Truth story to its conclusion in tonight’s series finale. We are so proud of the stories we’ve been able to tell each season, especially those related to social justice.”
The team expressed their gratitude to the residents in Winnipeg and Selkirk, Manitoba, for their cooperation during production. They also thanked fans worldwide for their never-ending support.
The announcement came just a day before the last episode of the series aired in its home country, surprising Canadian fans. Since the show arrived later in the US, American fans had enough time to process the sad news.
To be clear, 'Burden of Truth' did not get canceled. The show ended organically. Representatives from ICF Films and Eagle Vision said in a statement via Deadline:
“When we began this season, we knew our story was coming to its natural end with a meaningful conclusion for Joanna, Billy, and the entire cast of characters. We’re thankful to…our tremendous cast, helmed by Kristin Kreuk and Peter Mooney, for bringing ground-breaking stories to life.”
The production companies that created the show are already firm on their decision to end the series. It seems unlikely for them to reverse their choice. Therefore, a fifth season of 'Burden of Truth' is unlikely to happen anymore.
When high-school girls start contracting the mysterious illness, Joanna Hanley gets forced to return to her hometown. There, she works hard to convince locals that she had nothing to do with her family's hurried departure when she was a teenager.
She soon finds herself engrossed in a world dominated by hackers, political movements, and activists. When Joanna becomes a target of the threats, someone shows up to try to change the course of the events. Aside from battling the case, Joanna also finds herself in the middle of a town with an increasing unemployment rate.
In the end, Joana's law license got suspended for a year. But despite all the challenges, Joana managed to get a deserved happy ending. She and Billy got engaged in an intimate moment she describes as "counter-proposal."
“It’s a counter-proposal,” Joanna said with a smile and tears in her eyes after an emotional confession about her feelings. “I want it be you and me. For good. Forever.”
'Burden of Truth' season 5 is no longer happening, but at least the plot wrapped nicely in season 4.
