The exceptionally talented pair belted out a medley of smash hits during a recent appearance on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.'
Ariana Grande and Kelly Clarkson went head-to-head in a jaw-dropping sing-off recently when the pair made an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" alongside their fellow The Voice coaches John Legend and Blake Shelton. Giving fans a taste of That's My Jam, an upcoming hour-long music and comedy variety game show hosted by Fallon, the exceptionally talented pair were tasked with belting out a medley of smash hits from the aptly-fitting "Pop Divas" category. Although initially Grande hilariously appeared nervous to take on Clarkson, the 28-year-old kicked things off with an uncanny impression of Britney Spears for her rendition of "Oops!... I Did It Again."
Clarkson also brought her A-game to the friendly competition as she took on "Any Man of Mine" from the country-twanged singer Shania Twain. Grande—the latest addition to the team of coaches on The Voice—followed up with a spot-on Cher impression while singing "Believe," at one point of which Clarson enthusiastically jumped in to support her. The 39-year-old then blew Grande (and us viewers) away with her performance of Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know," raising the bar high for her worthy opponent.
Even as she followed with her rendition of Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know," Grande took a moment to express her admiration for Clarkson with a quick "Oh my god!" Meanwhile, Clarkson, who was thoroughly vibing with her fellow singer on-stage one moment, instantly got into the zone for Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart" before passing the baton back to Grande. The young singer then brought the house down with her version of "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" by Celine Dion in yet another goosebumps-inducing moment. Clarkson wrapped up the duo's unforgettable duel by showing off her amazing vocal range with a powerful rendition of Houston's "I Will Always Love You."
What made their performances so enjoyable was perhaps how both singers ignored the competitive aspect of the game and provided backup vocals and harmonies for each other throughout the fun challenge. Host Fallon was visibly enthralled as he watched Grande and Clarkson's sing-off alongside Legend and Shelton. Calling their performances "unbelievable" at one point, he reminded us all: "These guys can sing!" While Clarkson and Legend were eventually crowned the winners of that round, based on the overwhelmingly positive response online, it's clear that it's us viewers who feel like the real winners in this scenario.
