The League of Legends series is officially returning to Netflix, but not this year.
The first season of Arcane, which made its debut late last year in November, is getting another season! Arcane is Riot Games' first foray into television, and the show has been a huge success.
"We're beyond happy about the positive response to Arcane's first season and are working hard with the creative wizards at Riot and Fortiche to deliver our second installment," said co-creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee, according to Deadline. Linke previously told Deadline about how the Netflix series serves as a "love letter" to the League community – from Rioters to players. "I really feel confident in the statement that everyone that works on these things feels like they're working on the most important thing they've ever done in their craft," he said.
The official description of the show states: "Two sisters. Two cities. One discovery that will change the world forever. In the cities of Piltover and Zaun, unrest stirs as inventors and thieves, politicians, and crime lords chafe against the constraints of a society torn asunder." The first season featured a total of nine episodes, and each episode came up to about 45 minutes. Netflix dropped a short teaser about the second season being confirmed, but there's not much else to go by. And there's no new footage.

Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent recently said in an interview with Billibilli that "it's unfortunately not going to be this year (2023)" for the release of Arcane Season 2.
"So, I just watched the third episode of Season 2 before my flight to China. We're making progress on it. It is not ready yet, and there are two reasons for that. One, you want the quality. We just do not want to rush, and that takes time. So that's a good reason." He said.
He then went on to say that they didn't work on Arcane Season 2 earlier because they weren't sure if the first season was going to be a success.
"The bad reason is honestly we didn't know if Season 1 was going to be a success. So, we didn't start Season 2 until... If I had known, we would have started Season 2 way earlier. But we didn't know, so we kind of waited a bit. So now we're kind of paying the price."
Christian Linke, one of the co-showrunners, mentioned that the scripts for Season 2 were finalized in 2022. During a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session, Linke, along with producer Alex Yee, stated that there would be some adjustments made during the production process.
"There’s always some amount of tweaks that happen in the process. Seeing story boards & hearing voices for the first time makes you realize that something doesn’t quite click, or there’s new opportunities you didn’t recognize before."
Again, there's not much information about the plot of the next season. All we can do is guess how an initial couple of episodes might unfold, given how the first season ended – with a huge cliffhanger. The first season is set in the utopian region of League of Legends realms Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun. The series follows the origins of popular League champions sisters Jinx and Vi as they seek to reunite. All we know from the first season is that if they keep the momentum going, fans will love the complex characters, fascinating storylines, and stunning animation!
We're expecting most of the original cast to return, including:
Hailee Steinfeld as Vi
Ella Purnell as Powder/Jinx
Mia Sinclair Jenness as Young Powder
Kevin Alejandro as Jayce Talis
Katie Leung as Caitlyn Kiramman
Molly Harris as Young Caitlyn
Harry Lloyd as Viktor
Toks Olagundoye as Mel Medarda
JB Blanc as Vander and Bolbok
Reed Shannon as Ekko
Miles Brown as Young Ekko
