The Guardians of Justice aka Adi Shankar's The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!) is a parody superhero series created, directed, written, and executive produced by Adi Shankar. It is set in the Bootleg Universe which originated on Adi Shankar's 2012 YouTube channel. It is a satirical take on the superhero movies from DC Comics and the Justice League. It stars WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page as Knight Hawk, as a parody version of Batman. The seven-part series premiered on Netflix on March 1, 2022. It was marketed as "An Adi Shankar Experience."
The series received a lot of mixed reactions but also has only a 4.8 rating on IMDb. But what can we expect in terms of the future of the show?
The show may have not received the best ratings but to Netflix, it is the viewership that matters. Viewers seem to have enjoyed the mixed media format of the show. It is also a take on the superhero genre and is unique in its approach to the same. In the first season, we see the incidents following the defeat Robo-Hitler and at the end of World War 3. The first season also ended with an open-ended conclusion also provides a great amount of potential for another season to happen.
In the first season, there was peace on Earth for 40 years thanks to the alien superhero Marvelous Man (Will Yun Lee). But in 1987, this peace is thrown into chaos with Marvelous Man's death. Marvelous Man's former lieutenant, Knight Hawk (Diamond Dallas Page), investigates his death with the help of the idealistic hero The Speed (Sharni Vinson) in order to prevent nuclear war and World War 4 from breaking out.
As for the second season, it can potentially pick up from the aftermath of the gruesome finale of the first season. We are left wondering if Galacron will visit planet Earth and that is a question the second season can answer if it is renewed.
Most of the cast is likely to return to the second season. We can expect to see Diamond Dallas Page as Knight Hawk, Jane Seymour as Golden Goddess, and Derek Mears as Awesome Man. Others including Christopher Judge as President Nicholas E. Nukem, Denise Richards as Laura Louis, and Andy Milonakis as Phil Hart may also be returning. If the plot expands further, we can expect to see fresh faces as well.
The series has been in development for a long time. It went through much revision since 2015 to finally become The Guardians of Justice. The show was finalized in 2021. If the show is renewed now, we may not be seeing the second season anytime sooner than the end of 2023 in the best-case scenario.
