Adam Sandler’s ‘Hubie Halloween’ is Netflix's Most Popular Movie of 2020

Hubie Halloween is Netlix's most popular movie this year, second to 365 Days in the overall movie rankings.

Adam Sandler's ‘Hubie Halloween’ is Netflix's highest-ranking movie of 2020 in the United States.

The comedy film was released on Netflix on October 7, 2020, and aced its way through the top despite heavy competition from other titles.

‘Hubie Halloween’ is second to Polish drama 365 Days in the overall movie rankings. But then again, we are only focusing on Netflix's original releases for this article, and 365 Days isn't a Netflix original, so that doesn't count for this article's category (just in case you're confused).

‘Hubie Halloween’ follows the story of eccentric Hubie Dubois (played by Sandler) who tries to save his hometown, Salem, from real monsters during Halloween.

With an odd reputation in the neighborhood, Dubois has to work harder to convince the police and the people that some actual monsters are lurking amidst the costume-clad community.

The hilarious family film features a star-studded cast, including Julie Bowen, Ray Liotta, Noah Schnapp, Steve Buscemi, and Maya Rudolph, produced by Happy Madison.

The pandemic has significantly increased Netflix's viewership. With people stuck at home and theaters closing, streaming platforms became extremely popular.

The pandemic is believed to contribute to  ‘Hubie Halloween’ success.

‘Hubie Halloween’ victory only proves that Netflix's decision to sign another contract with Sandler is worth-it.

Thanks to the success of his first four-year agreement with Netflix, Sandler currently holds one of the biggest and most profitable contracts with the streaming giant.

The 54-year-old actor originally signed in 2014 and renewed the contract in 2017.

The deal allowed Sandler to produce and star in “The Do-Over (2016)” “Sandy Wexler (2017),” “The Week Of (2018),” “Murder Mystery (2019) ” and “The Ridiculous 6 (2017)".

The 'Ridiculous 6' turned out to be Sandler's worst-rated film. With an insane 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, some people wondered why Netflix didn't choose to cut ties with the actor, just like how it promptly decides to ax underperforming titles.

However, we all know that what matters to Netflix is viewership. Hence, earlier this year, Sandler managed to secure another contract with Netflix to create 4 more films.

The platform noted that subscribers had streamed more than 2 billion hours of his movies since 2015, a huge factor for Netflix to keep their deal with Sandler.

Despite a few downs, Sandler's undeniably one of the biggest names in the movie industry.

His performance in the Safdie Brothers’ “Uncut Gems” earned him his highest-ever rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 92%. Sandler won an Independent Spirit Award for his role in the film despite getting ignored at the Oscars.

‘Hubie Halloween’ is available for streaming on Netflix.
